The Senate is VERY MUCH gerrymandered on a national level. Even deliberately so - The Dakota Territory was going through the process of becoming a state when it suddenly (?) occurred to them that if they became TWO states - North and South Dakota - they would get FOUR senators. So c. one and a half million people get twice as many Senators as the near forty million in California gets. Wyoming and Alaska are even worse.
I felt like this point needs to go on its own, but I think a lot of pundits are deliberately ignoring how utterly awful this political permission structure is.
Do people realize what would happen if Democrats anywhere decided they were going to utterly torment one of the unreconstructed states. The most left-wing of Democrats don't even do this. You don't see Ilhan Omar, AOC or the rest advocating for cutting off all aid to, say, Idaho!
The fact that this behavior is OK and not considered a reason for widespread condemnation of Republicans is particularly disgusting. I remember even getting lectures about how Democrats need to "respect" certain voters. The same voters cosigning shit like this. The pricktator even said with his own puckered anus mouth to Californians that he was going to torture their state, and they clapped for it!
