Cotton and peanuts are cultivated a scant mile from where I sit, but by a Floridian in an air conditioned, GPS-guided tractor rather than teams of happy darkies.

Today the temperature was 92, with a dew point of 78. The idea of chopping cotton in the sun gives me the same heebie-jeebies you got in Arkansas.

The employees should just be glad that they're learnin' to pick cotton. Makes 'em better off, and they can go having a family life, and doing things.
