Your hed gif source: https://open.substack.com/pub/martiniambassador/p/big-floof-big-thirst

Also, your friend Internet Personae asked for a new Meme Chat feature, which we are trying today. It's a place to put your memes and whatnot that are relevant to the daily news... you know, stuff you used to put in the comments when pictures could be embedded. You'll still have Ziggywiggy's nightly chat too, of course, but I'll try to get to posting the meme-specific one in the mornings when I post the Tabs source info. So with that introduction, here it is: https://open.substack.com/chat/posts/c17bba64-8fe3-4d59-8ae6-934945effc89

I deleted the Substack app when it started opening up every time I went to the website on my browser. And the app doesn’t work as well on an iPhone.

I see the same thing when Ziggywiggy posts things as I see when I click your link. It looks like this.

We can post images (like the above one) on the website with our browsers that everypony can see; those at your link will remain unseen for those who have chosen to delete the app.

Check the browser settings for that tab and see if there's an option for it to "render as desktop site" or similar. For some reason the substack chat doesn't want to render in mobile mode.

I know - I run into people on the interwebs - that are locked out of stuff - alas we live in a Substack world - I feel the same way about the YouTube app and YouTube on the internets - I hate when I click a YouTube link someone sends me and it opens in the YouTube app especially if I already have the internet open on half my screen and Substack (Wonkette) on the other side of the iPad - I try to avoid most apps (except for graphics programs) - I prefer the interwebs - but I bow to the decisions of her magnificence The Editrix and the realities of the marketplace - I am slowly learning the SubStack app -

Sorry that it is an imperfect solution for you. We do the best with the tools we have. FWIW, I do have the Substack app loaded on my phone and I use it specifically for opening and responding to the chat feature, using the phone's browser for everything else. But if you don't like doing things that way, you can always use a computer browser instead. Or putting things in the "notes" portion like you did is of course an option too, although I understand that some readers like the serial/stacked aspect of the chat feature. Just to clarify too, for those that might not know, notes publishes to the Substack community at large, so it does get a little less personal and more share-y.

I understand, and appreciate what you do. Thanks!

I just didn’t know if you knew that a number of us deleted the app when it started hijacking everything when using a browser (at least on an iPhone).

I eighty-sixed the app from my phone also too. The browser works better for everything but the chat. For the chat, you must force the mobile browser to render the page in desktop mode.

I don't know what to say about this Vance fucker. I think he's a sadist. He's clearly fascinated by pain, suffering, and humiliation and tries to cover with fake ass strong man protestations. Democrats shouldn't overdo the "weird" thing (some of the best people I know are kinda weird), but this guy does have some kind of peculiar pathology going on. Keep an eye on him.

OFFICIAL! MUST CREDIT "WONKETTE"...

To me, dammit. Crip, I dunno if you told 'Trix that I'm the one who found that coincidentally named bit of Electronica, but we both know where you got it from. And it was a REPOST. I've posted several times in the past, the only reason it went up again yesterday is because we were doing couch gags.

You have forced my hand. No hard feelings, but I now have no choice but to commit to my long-planned, never executed search for an official Wonkette song, of which the above was the first and so far only candidate. And since you jumped the gun, you get to help. I'll put together a list of candidates by the end of next week, you can make sure Rebecca puts it up as a real Wonkette post so the Wonketariat can have a proper vote.

You're not the only one who can draft people, kiddo. 😁

Per "non-compete clauses" - the Developers is suing over this since it would prevent him from barring real estate agents at his wholly owned real estate company from competing for other firms. As if these assholes don't already get a sweetheart deal on "impact fees" for all their new properties ( the current impact fees only cover about 40% of the actual costs of improving infrastructure, providing police and fire protection, etc. - we homeowners cover the rest through our property taxes. ). This sweetheart dweal came about after the Developers got their pet state senator and representatives to author a bill preventing the county from raising Impact fees ( One of them was even on the Developers payroll, with a $600,000/yr salary, while protecting the Developer in the Republican-dominated state legislature. )

No, Florida's legislature is not filled with corrupt assholes.

I have two cords of wood being delivered in about two hours, to be dumped up at the top of the lawn and transported downhill via toboggan to then be stacked on my deck. I had some teenthings lined up to give me a hand with this project, and coordinated the date of delivery around the family’s schedule.

The mom in this scenario bailed late in the day yesterday. Cheerfully told me that they would come Sunday. Today, however, is the only break in the weather. We have rain, soaking rain, forecast from this evening onward until Sunday. I can’t leave my wood out to soak.

Making matters more complicated, I hurt my hand a few days ago. Nothing serious, probably just a deep bruise. It’s still sore. I don’t want to bugger it up by using it hard in this shape, but I don’t have any choice.

While wet wood is annoying, if you get it under cover within the week it'll be plenty dry by October when you need it. Let the youngsters do the literal heavy lifting here.

IMO, YMMV, etc.

My brain knows that, but the what-if, worst-case-scenario part of my gut isn’t buying.

Remind me to tell you sometime about the year that it started snowing and I moved the firewood from the woods into my driveway, and decided that it was getting on to sunset and I could move the wood down to the porch the next day. Rained for three days straight-in November!—and froze, and the driveway was solid ice. I had to go up there and sit on my butt and kick the cylindrical ice cubes down the driveway.

Or the winter that winter came on September 7th and we had so much snow that the daisies were still blooming when it melted off in the spring.

I might aim at just getting it moved onto the deck, and I can put a tarp up over the upper deck and then stack it at my leisure.

Also, I have no way of knowing that they won’t bail again. This was frustrating. I ordered around their schedule.

I will have plenty to opportunity to work off my annoyance today.

Disembodied, perhaps, but i don’t have that good an imagination. Ergo, you are real.

First load is here, beautifully dumped on a tarp. Some spillage, but that will minimize the raking at the other end. I’m at the front end of this process, where I look in shock at the sheer bulk of the pile. Photographs flatten it out and make it seem less daunting.

Also, it’s likely that the warm weather of summer is behind us, and wet wood doesn’t dry out that well when it’s in the 50’s and 60’s. This stuff is gorgeous, about 10% moisture content. Want to keep it that way.

In other words, you’re probably right. It would be fine.

Don’t. Be mad about Friend. I have a caregiver friend who tells me about old people who never interact with anyone but her. AI friendship would be awesome for them. It doesn’t matter that it’s a substandard kind of interaction, I have no doubt that it would be helpful.

Also, I know about Anthropic and their PI.ai. It was founded by OpenAI refugees who had a better idea about how to make a human aligned AI. It is a cool, humane idea. PI.ai is a really nice chatbot that is very pleasant to use. Not as fully smart as the latest ChatGPT but plenty close.

I use it sometimes to blabber about stuff. I have had some pleasing insights about some of my relationships. Also, I talk to it about science and philosophy topics I like. It’s cheerful, affirmative attitude encourages me to explore and learn.

Obviously there are reasons to be concerned about AI but there are some good babies in the bathwater. I don’t really know about Friend but if it is based on PI.ai, I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
