Of course, this insanity would infect my Red State shit hole town: Wisconsinites rally around book rejected by Muskego board for focus on Japanese experience.

Sadly, I don't share this article's optimistic appraisal of the situation. I actually live here. Muskego is lily white and went HEAVILY for Trump. Several of our recent school board meeting running on anti-CRT and anti-public-health campaigns. For every one of these protestors, there are likely at least a dozen fashy rednecks who think that any negative portrayal of the US should be met with a lynch mob.

Heard on the CBC that houses in Britain are designed to keep in the warmth.

They were interviewing someone who put aluminum foil over his windows and doors in an attempt to keep the heat out. Then he figured that it might be more efficient to put the foil on the outside of them, not the inside. As long as someone is basting him, I suppose it doesn't matter.

You've got a point.

Robin you are very astute about this looming catastrophe. As a Canadian I cant imagine a world where public education and the saints known as teachers are so horribly underappreciated and dismissed.

The one time I served on a school parent committee many years ago it was a pretty thankless task of planning fund raising events and graduation ceremonies. So I dont have a lot of experience to share but I really hope you can galvanize others to step up and help stem the tide.

What the hell

I know we have one guy on the school board who creeped me out with his Christian value shit when he ran but in retrospect he was pretty mild-mannered compared to some of these extreme ones. Like Tiffany Justice, who was on the school board in the next county for a while. She was also behind efforts to strike down school mask mandates up there. It was only recently I realized that she was a founder of Moms for Liberty.

It's basically anti-bullying measures, and God knows nothing upsets these assholes more than their kids not being allowed to beat the shit out of the gay kids.

My brother has run into this in Michigan. A bunch of MAGAt, RWNJs* have swept in and are trying to take over the Republican party in his township. They've put up a slate of candidates for the school board -- who either homeschool their children or have no children in the district's schools.

*Even the local Republicans think they're fucking nutjobs.

Plus, they let the moat dry up and all the alligators died.

It's much easier to join a group in order to completely destroy it, rather than trying to improve it.

The back door was not locked. Teacher's fault, oops, it wasn't her fault but let's continue to blame her. The classroom door was locked. Maybe. I heard something from that report about the lock/unlock system being screwed up. Or maybe that was Parkland, where doors locked while kids were in the halls and they couldn't get back into some classrooms.

I don't think it's too late but it's true we should have engaged before, and the longer we waited the harder it will be to fight. But we can't give up.

So... you think that might keep liberals from running for school boards? Because I sure as fuck want nothing to do with those assholes.

Reagan talked about eliminating the Department of Education. Their fuckery is very patient, witness Rove versus Wade.

I'd back that up to 1972 and the Watergate break in (or the break in to Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist)

I’ll say once again, democrats and liberals have no sense of playing the long game. They still think everything will be rainbows and unicorns if we just win the next presidential election. The most extreme were the Berniecrats who were convinced that if he won, we could all get free college, free health care, and free weed just through the sheer power of his Bernieness. But it’s a prevalent attitude.

Wingnuts have spent decades building up this infrastructure because they know incremental victories are better than no victories. They chipped away at abortion rights across the country while building up a stable of hacks to fill the benches. They groom parents to go nuclear Karen at school board meetings in order to censor books and curricula.

They are simply better prepared for a long political fight than we are.
