My dad always said, "When you assume, you make an a$$ out of you and me."

Because the father in this case made some bad assumptions, he took actions he otherwise wouldn't have. It's not anyone else's fault. He was told the girls' group would not be reimbursed. He wanted to sell some items. And he left them unattended outside. Which makes it look like they were free.

The father screwed up. He's not a good business manager. That doesn't mean anyone owes him money. If he filed a lawsuit for damages, it would get laughed out of court.

Take off your anti-Trump hat, and put on your business law hat. Use those classes from your MBA program, and answer the question from the perspective of the law.
