Up Here as well. We're not proud of it, and it will take a very long time to undo even part of that wrong.

They're not literally missing -- it's just that HHS can't say for sure where they are. Partly because -- I shit you not -- they decided to save money by not calling back foster parents they couldn't contact the first time out.

If they just keep "losing" and "misplacing" all the brown kids pretty soon they won't need to pay anybody to house them at all because they will have disappeared! Problem solved! Can I haz my official political appointment to a cushy govt. job where I can grift to my heart's content now????

That's such a great idea that I went back in time and wrote it in the article that you don't appear to have read.

If this were a dystopian novel instead of real life, it would turn out that this was merely the first step of a grand plan. One where the children were then programmed on the military bases into becoming perfect little soldiers, who were sent out in wars that were calculated to enrich the corrupt oligarchs back home.

Since this is real life, I fully expect to hear, once it's either leaked by a concerned citizen or uncovered after everyone involved has resigned/been arrested/voted out of office, that the kids were spending 6 hours a day being made to watch propaganda in order to turn them into gung-ho RWNJs.

Fuckin' Trump, ruining my love of dystopian fictional worlds.

great. Military bases are generally much harder to gain access to now--post 9/11--than they used to be for everyday civilians. As someone who lives near one of the most secure AF bases in the country--Wright-Patterson--the idea that we are just going to dump a bunch of children to be "housed" on bases without the ability of outside support to provide aid sounds like military detention. Without any Geneva Convention niceties..

You know WHO ELSE loved to sadistically tear innocent families apart and "concentrate" them in special "villages" or "camps"?

Wouldn't be surprised if it said "now accepting applications" instead of "now hiring". I think he was Broward Sheriff's Office, not FLPD.

"they can use the old WWII internment camps"

Um, what did you think the "Manzanar" reference in the title was alluding to if not the Japanese interment camps?
