Excellent! A little patience and a lot of treats tend to go a long way with dogs. Glad you took it on yourself to get him started, and hopefully if your dad can reinforce this, he'll be just fine. They can be odd little beasties sometimes. Molly's bff Hank, who I care for often, sometimes decides on a walk, usually when we are turning on to a new street, that he is going to sit down and refuse to go any further. Nothing I do can coax him to move. Fortunately, he weighs about 5 pounds, so I just pick him up and continue on. At some point I'll set him back down again, and he's fine. Go figure?

I just think he hasn't been encouraged to explore enough and everything new is now scary.

Sadly, he's definitely too big to pick up and carry. And even if he wasn't, he squirms like mad when he doesn't want to go. He thwacked his very solid head into my chin when I was trying to help get him to the vet. (Seriously, check out how big he is now.) https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
