Sadly, in a ruling that should define the word "tautology", a court ruling upheld a California law that felons who had been trained and are serving as firefighters while in prison are prohibited from being firefighters once they are released because they are felons.
Yesterday was the first day of summer as well as the first day in more than a month that I built a fire in the woodstove. It's crackling again today too.
This is sadly how it feels. And very questionable, how can the city afford this? These seems like taxpayers will be footing the bill forever due to this needless tragedy 😔
WTF My community needs wildland firefighters but those brave folks could literally get a job washing dishes and make more than $15 an hour. I get paid way more than that and I don't once have to worry about getting burned to death! What are we even doing here - pay these people better!

Trust me, $5/hr is big bucks on the inside. Top Unicore wage use to be 61¢/hr. The inmates have all food/board/medical "paid" already.

Same in Texas. Fucking bullshit, $15 should be minimum wage. Firefighters, Nurse aids, EMTs, etc should be paid more. Period.
I think they're trying to keep them short and punchy with lots of big stuff that can be digested by the 24-hour news machine over time.
Most of it will come back, though. Every plant in this ecosystem evolved with fire, and some can't reproduce without it.
