Dubya and his wars helped those motherfucking criminals get the beginnings of a stranglehold on Texas voters, and they've expanded their grasp until they now hold a 70% majority in the lege in a state where the population itself is a little more liberal than not and has been for years. (That alone should tell you how big the cheat is.) Before Shrub, we elected Ann Richards. Don't get me started on Paxton -- his many crimes should have put him behind bars years ago.
You'd think that people who kill off migrants or use the AG's office for grifting would at least be voted out or indicted. So far, that would be a nope. There's too much money lying around to be grifted. For example, the state has a huge surplus that there are no plans for spending, but they won't use even a small fraction of it on prison inmates -- most state prisons have no A/C for inmates, so they suffer through 100F+ temps in the summer and some of them die. There have been NO repercussions.
I have little hope we can rout the motherfuckers -- it seems about as futile as trying to get rid of those huge cockroaches in Houston. Elections for gov, lite gov, and AG are all in off-years, so the next chance to do that will be in 2026. (That's also a factor in why they're still in office -- lower voter turnout means less effort staying in office.) Still... maybe this year we can at least get rid of fucking Cancun Ted. And then in 2026, we might be able to get enough people to the polls to eject at least one of their corrupt asses.

For what it's worth, the Texas Rangers have been an instrument for suppressing (and terrorizing) Hispanics since Texas became a state. That's why, historically, two-thirds of them were stationed south of San Antonio. So it's not surprising that Paxton would use them here as his attack dogs.
Speaking of attack dogs, sometimes I try to imagine the kind of ending Game of Thrones scriptwriters would devise for a character like Paxton. I recall that the arch-villain Ramzey Bolton was devoured by his own vicious dogs. I suspect the writers would want something a little harsher and even more scream-inducing for Krime King Ken.
Also... not to ignore what the Rangers are and have been, but their role is now basically being DPS. They were replaced by actual military -- not that the Rangers can't be reactionary assholes, but the Texas Military Dept took over. From the website:
