On Rachel Maddow's show this evening (8/30 - Thursday) Democrat Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer, stated her campaign had hired an outside firm to perform opposition research on her. Donald J. Trump refused to allow his campaign to do this - although it is standard practice today. Apparently FOIA requests from the candidates themselves take forever. Back in December 2017 this company filed its requests for information on her. To date - they have received nothing. But Paul Ryan's Super PAC gets an answer in 3 weeks with illegal information? And lacks the decency and shame to realize this is wrong? Back in the day a candidate for president received the other candidate's pre-debate prep book. Rightly suspecting it might be a trap (it wasn't) but still trying to do the right thing, they returned the material to the other campaign and notified the authorities. That's doing the right thing - something Paul Ryan, apparently doesn't understand.
It feels good but they end up winning, sadly. That's their whole thing, the reason they rally and do all the stupid shit. It's to get a violent reaction. They then claim that we're no different.

Well, details. Apparently the government had on and off tried this crap for years but the ACLU sued and they stopped in 2009? But the Trumpies started it up again. I think there's one doctor who was ACCUSED of falsifying one birth certificate (and it doesn't even look like that was ever proven) out of 15,000 births. It's a very sucky story. There's a WOnkette piece up now about it, based on the WAPO story, which will make one Scream.
