I have non-commented here for a very long time. I had to find paying work before I could spend money on a subscription, and it's one of the very first things I did with my first paycheck. Now, I'm retired and continue to subscribe and pay. It's very rewarding.

I will increase my monthly PayPal thing, Trix. I've been here since before Donna Rose was born, so I think it's time. Wonkette and its many kind, smart, and snarky Wonks have saved my life and sanity many times. I love you! 😻

● I subscribe because I am lonely, needy, and have no friends that I don't pay for.

More than worth my measly pay out.*

*I kid. I'M A KIDDER!

“You know, next time I have a “membership drive,” I am gonna count everyone who gives us more than $100, as that would be like an annual donation, as “new paid subscribers,” but I didn’t keep track of that this time, so I’m not doing it this time, so you’re just gonna have to harangue your friends to sign up so you can get PRIZES, like what I said about not showing any gross people’s faces on new posts for a WEEK or TWO WEEKS or A MONTH.”

It’s not too late to sucker us long term subscribers to toss a hundred Ameros at you to get those ugly faces off the homepage this time!

I subscribe to Wonkette so I can pretend I have friends in the "comments."

This is going to sound weird, but I have actually met real live humans at Wonkmeets, who have developed into real live friends! So much so that, even though it’s hundreds of miles, I have gotten together with one of them four times in the past 12 months.

I still have my $4.99 ad-free subscription through PayPal from when Wonkette had ads and you could pay to get rid of them. Remember that car minigame ad where we all learned to take the junk out of our trunks to go faster? What was that even an ad for? I have no idea.

Thank you, Wonkette, for helping to keep me marginally sane since I first found you in 2008. I wish I could do more to show my appreciation. <3

I’m with you. Also a former “ad free” donor.

I think it was those like us who convinced ‘Becca that there was a path forward using only donations.

One thing I’m noticing, I’m subscribed in substack already as a ‘free’ member, but I’ve been sending $ through paypal since disqus.

-the button to ‘subscribe’ above shows up as ‘subscribed ✔️’

-If I click on that button, where is the button to give $ directly in substack? I don’t see one. There is a link to cancel sub, but not to add payment to the sub?

-Also in substack app, wonkette doesn’t show up in my subscriptions, but it does show up in the ‘Home’ tab.

I am reading a thing about California billionaires who have raised a fucking $350 millon or so for the "Building a Better California PAC," which is not about building a better California, of course: it is about defeating proposition 40, California's proposed wealth tax (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/technology/proposition-40-california-billionaire-tax.html?unlocked_article_code=1.L1E.7GM-.F_ZPVu61feem&smid=url-share). That tax is just a littler taster, IMO, of what is necessary to address the obscene levels of inequality in this country. That's the thing: if you don't take serious steps to curb it, the oligarchy just grows and grows in size and power, dividing up the spoils of monopoly among a small group of multi-billionaires, and becoming an ever greater threat to democracy. Passing on that wealth they have to their feckless offspring too, to continue the looting and democracy-destroying. Doing nothing lets this happen, and I'm afraid even our Dems have been mostly doing nothing serious. That half-a-Dem Newsom for example is opposed to the tax.

Pretty soon it will be Bezos and Musk passing a doobie back and forth on a space station somewhere, using a billion dollar bill as the rolling paper.

They really think the rest of us aren't smart enough to figure out

IF THEY CAN AFFORD TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY TO DEFEAT A PROPOSITION

THEY CAN AFFORD TO PAY THE D*MN TAXES

Literally nothing but bald-faced greed

If I had my way, prop 40 would be for 95% of their accumulated wealth.

OT so I'm going to go swimming at a new-to-me pool before work today. There's a free day pass through DayJob that I reserved. New is EXCITING & INTIMIDATING & KEEPS ME ON MY TOES!

It will be awesome. Or not. But great. Probably.

OT. Ole Zucheroos is not as dumb as he looks. His credit card is all maxed out and the rates are going up almost daily. IKR, I hate when that happens. So how to spend MORE money on AI ?

Sell more stock ! A lot. Like $100 Billion ! Sell to all the fund managers that are "investing" your money for your retirement, kids college, medical, mortgages, and even for those poor bastards that need money EVERY day to simply live. Take everyone's money! And give them "stock."

🙋🏼‍♂️ Uh...what is this "stock" thing they are getting ?

Don't worry about it. You will be part of the 21st Century Super Fantastic Future when AI runs the world !!🌐

Uh, yeah but what do we get, really ? Stock ! But what? Ok, you get a piece of paper that says you own 1 gazillionth of a piece of Meta. I thought it was all digital in the Cloud now?

Well, yeah, somewhere there is an account with your name with a number next to it.

That's it? Yep! Easy Peezee, Lemon Squeezee. But..but...

Oh don't worry. Stocks hardly ever crash. But what if it does. What do I get ?

Well nothing. So how much do you want.

No thanks. I think I will pass.

on a somber note...

Today marks eight years since eleven Jews were murdered in an unspeakable act of antisemitism at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

May their memories continue to be a blessing.

And may those who were wounded and those whose hearts were broken continue to heal.
