I have two orange brother cats named Buff Cassidy (dusty orange) and the Sundance Kit. I have a third, non-related orange/Siamese cat named Kit Curry.

When I first saw my two orange brothers on the Internet, they had a pose almost identical to the one shown above. So of course I put tiny hats on the picture.

I write a lot about politics, but my weekly newsletter also covers culture. This week I did a pretty deep dive into the career and life of Robert Redford. Give it a read, look around the site, and free subscribe. Really appreciate it!

I haven't really delved into Fat Bear Week livecams much before, but I think this might be the year to immerse myself. Wildlife couldn't care less who Donald Trump is.

Maybe's avatar

trumpy could probably win a fat bear contest. Bears do come in orange, right? And they can be vicious.

Always Be Ithacating's avatar

Bears need social skills and intelligence to survive though!

I Stedman's avatar

Unfortunately, they will care a great deal when Trump's minions and grifters mash their environment flat chasing a few more dollars while wrecking the place.

Always Be Ithacating's avatar

Humans are the ones responsible for unleashing Trump's minions and grifters to wreck the environment. I don't mean we should ignore that for a second, but I believe I will end this week with a renewed determination to fight the bad guys, and I imagine many others will too.

Where the bullet that killed Charlie Kirk was found:

The bullet “should have just gone through and through. It likely would have killed those standing behind him too,” Kolvet said the physician told him on Saturday. The anecdote was shared on the social media platform X.

The coroner found the bullet “just beneath the skin,” said Kolvet, who also serves as spokesman for Kirk’s Turning Point USA.

“Even in death, Charlie managed to save the lives of those around him. Remarkable. Miraculous,” he said.

They're really milking this shit.

Maybe's avatar

I'd say the shooter managed to save the lives of those behind Kirk as much as Kirk did. Though it does seem to be true that Kirk had more use as an inanimate object than otherwise.

BTW, I was sickened by the shooting, as I am sickened by the violent, gun-worshiping culture our country has adopted. I think it's time for the four-country solution: East Coast, West Coast, Midwest, and South. I live in California and it feel so good.

Can we get some ballistic pros to weigh in on this? Something feels off.

It’s a cool damp Sunday in SW MO and all the clocks are striking thirteen.

Questions, yes:

How long will Pam Bondi last if she can’t accomplish Lord Yam’s demands?

What happens when you run out of lawyers, when no one will rep you?

What happens when Lord Yam’s demands go unmet?

Is Batman a transvestite?

Bonus Non-Comment:

Bless the UK, Canada, and Australia for recognizing Palestine.

Charlie Kirk was a fascist shit-stirrer who got what all fascist shit-stirrers deserve. He was killed by his own rhetoric.

Maybe's avatar

He didn't deserve to be killed and his kids didn't deserve to lose their father. (I'm not sure his wife is mourning since she seems to be enjoying the show.) I certainly don't mourn him, but I believe that violence except in self-defense or the defense of others (including cats) is immoral.

Sojourner Truth's avatar

He paid what he termed an "acceptable" price for the Second Amendment.

I guess that's what makes him MAGA messiah - He died for your AK forty-sins.

Maybe's avatar

Though I am pretty sure he didn't think he would be one of the acceptable killings. I'm against all murders, but his sure upped the bar on irony.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Tens of thousands of people, including President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, are expected to pay tribute Sunday to Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was shot and killed on a Utah college campus earlier this month.

The memorial is being held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The stadium can seat up to 73,000, and other overflow areas have been set up to accommodate the crowds.

The Kirk services will be 10% memorial service and 90% MAGA rally.

I wonder if they will allow people to bring guns.

Hey, we were on the Island for the last three days! I got the tractor back and usable, started up the wood mill and cut a few cedar boards as a test, and used the new Honda generator for the cabin lights! What I don't understand is that, if the Equinox is this week, my Moon app tells me that daytime here is still 12 hours and 14 minutes. I guess I just don't understand time...

There was an interesting article in the 'St. Louis Post Dispatch' this morning about a Black patient being sent for organ harvesting before brain death had been confirmed. I considered that there was an implication that Black gunshot victims were parted out prematurely for financial reasons.

I spent the better part of an hour in a hell-hole... a nasty wasty place full of gook and gunk and YUCK, on my hands and knees with a hand scraper and a five gallon pail, cleaning up shit that has been accumulating in that place for 20 years or better. Some really rude detail... Mrs. Thors is gonna KILL me for what I done to my blue jeans...

but the last five minutes, I walked out front, stood in the shade, it is about 83F, nice breeze and low humidity.... I got to listen to two mockingbirds just singing their HEARTS out, matching one another's songs...

so much beauty in a very ugly place.

UVB-76's avatar

Singing birds are a reminder that not all is bad, and a reward for completing a dirty but necessary job.

REPORTER: Have you ever threatened DOJ leadership if they don't prosecuted Letitia James?

TRUMP: No. I don't do that. I mean, I look at the facts like everybody else. You read the facts, and to me she looks terrible, she looks like she's very guilty. But that's going to be up to the DOJ.
