Love that movie. Especially the part where, the good guys are holed up in the mall but the zombies have broken in. They’re all over the open access part of the mall, they’re hungry and looking for live human flesh to eat. When suddenly! Someone turns on the mall sound system and out comes muzak. 101 Strings does the Beatles or something like that… and the zombies automatically start shopping!!! I laugh about that still. I’m thinking it might have been some kind of obscure comment on consumerism or something.

Virgin Monk Boy's avatar

If the MAGA crowd ever remade Dawn of the Dead, they’d insist the zombies were crisis actors and try to storm the mall for “freedom fries.” The rest of us would just be in the food court praying the dog still makes it.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

I cannot believe I confused the two of them. Earlier I said something about hearing that Ben Kingsley is giving most of his money to charity these days.

It was not Ben Kingsley.

It is Willem Dafoe. When someone mentioned his name as someone who plays villains well (like Kingsley), I realized my mistake. I am so outdone with myself.

https://youtu.be/l6CUrXLIKKE <-- this is the video I saw that was talking about it.

NatalyaResists's avatar

You're forgiven. The other night I confused Amy Madigan with Patricia Arquette. People here were too polite to correct me.

The other day I confused Annie Leibovitz with Fran Lebowitz. It would have qualified for the old "Young Miss" feature, "Boy, Was My Face Red!"

Watched the short this morning. Scottish animated steampunk -- what's not to love? And Brian Cox voicing Widdershins. Cox is one hard-working actor, and he has been in . . . well, everything, from the looks of it. I know him best from Sharpe and Deadwood.

Turns out fucking over regular people has benefits

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

There's programs specifically FOR this sort of thing. Some of those loans will be low or even no interest. But not all. They get some sort of tax break or something for offering them.

I only know this because emails have been sent out detailing all the "help" available. To a workforce that cannot right now access its emails.

We've been passing things along

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

don't think he can actually do that, but then, I also do not think they even care about what they can and cannot do.

Like...laying off people who are furloughed. Should not be a thing! And yet....

This blows my mind. Belgium had no government for…oh I think it was YEARS, they have proportional representation so they always have minorities and governments kept falling because coalitions collapsed. And the administration side of government just kept operating.

This way of functioning is insane. It’s absolutely nuts. Politicizing everything like this. I know it’s just a symptom of deeper problems but it’s just nuts.

Belgium is a two headed monster of a country. Half French speakers and half Flemish speakers. Equally divided parliament. Perpetual stalemate. But they make it work how they can. The basics get attended to.

Every once in a while I go and check my yahoo email, because I don't really use it for much, it's just tied to some old accounts, and there's usually a couple spam emails in there that they don't filter out worth shit, but today there was 600+ junk emails in there...

TerseNurse's avatar

they started using this AI feature (of course) in the mailbox which pushes all the crap you didn't even want to see

JCfromNC's avatar

I use Office 365 for my email, mostly, but I use the version of Outlook that comes bundled into Windows for my Hotmail account that's my Microsoft account email. I, too have an old Yahoo! account that I've had since forever, and I added it to Outlook just so I could check both of those infrequently-used accounts at the same time.

And yes, my spam folder is YOGE.

Anarchy Pony's avatar

To be clear, this was the main inbox that had the 600+. The spam folder had 8 emails in it.

Dina's avatar

That's kind of like my old Hotmail (which I never use but, like you, have a couple accounts like Uber tied to it as well as the recovery email for when things go crewy with my husband's). My main email address is Yahoo (because I'm too lazy to set up or learn a new email server because damnit, I'm old) and the only things I actually get in my inbox there are things I want or have at least okay'd.

JCfromNC's avatar

Yes, I understand. Most of my spam (and a great deal of political begging, which is fine with me) gets caught, although lately there's been at least two or three spam letters in my inbox every day.

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

Not sure about yahoo, but gmail had some thing where it took off certain filters because conservatives were complaining it was silencing them or some such shit.

I take the time now to report every fucking one of em as spam. Doubt it does anything but it amuses me enough to keep doing it.

the gulf between even the slightly rich, say a Simpsons actor or the owner of a few car dealerships, and the rest of us is ridiculously huge. The gulf between us and the billionaires is incomprehensibly enormous

Jen's Taking Greenland's avatar

I saw a youtube or tiktok or whatever visual representation of that. Was just a bar graph, and the working poor and middle class ones stopped before a second passed, while the moderately rich lasted maybe a second or two and then the billionaire one went on for like ten minutes.

"Rep. Nancy Mace berated Charleston airport police due to missing escort, incident report says"

https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/31/politics/nancy-mace-charleston-airport-incident

//

US Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina allegedly berated police officers at Charleston International Airport Thursday morning, allegedly “loudly cursing” at officers and saying they were “f**king incompetent,” according to an incident report from police.

//

Apparently she had a meltdown after arriving late, at the wrong entrance, and the little people there failed to instantly pop up to escort her to her flight.

Anarchy Pony's avatar

That this psychotic woman is allowed to hold political office is a fucking travesty.

Linoleum von Curmudgeon, Esq.'s avatar

She comes from South Carolina.

If you want souvenirs and memorabilia of the Lost Cause of defending human slavery here in the United States you go to Charleston, SC. The downtown tourist shops all carry a variety of t-shirts, tea towels, key rings, underwear, etc etc featuring Confederate flags and slogans about never surrendering from the "War Against Northern Aggression".

You want drama? South Carolina was where the Civil War started and I doubt they are going to miss the chance to be the place where the second civil starts as well.

It may not be a travesty to have Nancy Mace in Congress; it seems to be more of a historical tradition where she really does reflect the will of her constituents.
