My BIL has a collection of various antique clocks, mostly coo coo clocks. He has about 20 different clocks which either coo coo, chime or bong. He has the clocks set at 1 minute intervals so they all don't go off at once. It actually sounds pretty cool as none of them have the same sound. If anyone hates DST, it's my BIL.

No spoilers, but for anyone here who watches the Six Nations-

this weekend has been incredible, and currently the Wales-France match is literally breathtaking. If you get to watch it later, do- it's fantastic. Both teams playing better than they have all competition.

[glowers darkly; a veritable symbiosis of bitter, hurt, seethingly angry, dismissed and ignored resentment]

It perturbs me enormously when someone assures me that they're going to take out all of yucky empty bottles, boxes, and various cans that accumulate in the recycling bin. All was to be taken out and the bin cleaned yesterday so that the container wouldn't become a stinky, sticky mess.

Guess what didn't get done and was just overflowing and really disgusting?

I've sorted all the recycling properly, boxed it up, and in two trips managed to get it all hauled down the thirteen stairs and out into the garage. I didn't drop so much as one empty can and got it all out there, the only downside being the fact that Cat the Ripper has escaped out into the garage and doesn't want to come back inside just yet.

He's a thoroughly spoiled little creature who doesn't like being cold. He's going to tire of his garage adventures fairly quickly when he starts to feel chilly and he'll be eager to come back inside.

My recent late night 'read til' yer eyes fuzz over' fantasy has been Jim Butcher's alternate pirate series, The Cinder Series. He wrote one back in 2019, and now a second (The Olympian Affair) in 2023 (finally!). The cats are hilarious!...

I like how she can't just admit "yes, I was raped, and I'm also supporting a convicted rapist, because I have no shame or conscience."

She also conveniently overlooked the fact that Donald Trump defamed E Jean Carroll relentlessly, while she whines about how everyone is "shaming" her.

I think it's interesting how the right adopts the language of the squishy, liberal, lefty wusses they otherwise mock when they think it's helpful to them- and, of course, when they feel like they're being unfairly confronted with an accurate but unflattering moral judgement of their behaviour.

I say bless daylight's saving time. Yes, it is annoying to turn back all our not connected to the internet clocks. Yes, it throws my system out of whack and while it is "only an hour" it still needs some recovering from. Yes, it is a pointless antiquated notion held over from a time when Doing Something meant pointless notions sold as science.

But it means hubby got up an "hour later" that normal on Sunday and thus, Superman is on, so he will not be watching any sunday shows and by default, forcing me to listen to them.

So as I keep digging, the ABC news poll that is out is drawn from people that signed up for marketing surveys and get points for responding. While the polling company says it does normal poll stuff like weight responses it gives no indication what was weighted and by how much.

Anyway, I don't think people that sign up for marketing surveys are representative of voters.

I took advantage of a couple of beautifully sunny hours this morning and roped Mr Cakes in to help me plant the garden with the perennials which arrived yesterday. We managed to plant 31 bare root perennials (it was supposed to be 30, we got a bonus plant) and finished up just as the first raindrops started to fall.

I also marked out the area that I've designated for the wildlife pond.

I feel that was a very productive morning.

Gardening is always a wonderful way to spend a morning.

I am finding it very very hard not to start in, but I have learned a hard lesson that until April shows up, do not expose the beds.

Too many last second frosts in March round here :k

susanne's avatar

Our frost date is May 15. That's so so late! Actually zones just changed and it may be earlier.

I just checked and we're at May 7! Still a long-ass way off.

Expand full comment
Holiday Jen's avatar

oh ours is later too I think, some time at the end of April, I just ignore that cause I cannot possibly go through April as well and thus far, 17 years of living here have taught me that the beginning of April is fine for the perennials. Though not for the veggies, those I need to remember to wait for May for and I never do, so I generally run about putting shopping bags over the plants when we're due a late frost XD

It is like a game
