It's fun watching Tim Sheehy run from reporters in Montana. He's literally afraid to answer any question. MEDIA: "why won't Kamala Harris do any interviews"?
Skye Perryman: Let’s be clear, the Supreme Court is our highest court, and you’ve done so much good work writing about it and making sure people understand the stakes, but there are other courts across the country. Extremists and far-right movements don’t just show up on the steps of the Supreme Court on the first Monday of October out of nowhere. They’re working in communities across the country seeking to bring cases to shape the law in what often appear to be small ways but are the pathway to a law and a jurisprudence in this country that does not represent all of us and that does not fundamentally serve the aims of democracy. Project 2025 is not just a document about the next presidential administration—or what could be the next presidential administration. It’s a manifesto that reflects actual things that are happening in our courts today. For those of us that have the privilege of being lawyers or court watchers, part of our work is to look this extremism in the face and not blink or deny it, but to understand that it is here and that we all have work to do to combat it.
The Superintendent of Education in my state has decided to partner with Dennis Prager, of Prager U, to edumacate the children of South Carolina. I hope they play them those videos about how all men are manly men, who will head their families, and discipline the kids in a Christian way.
Our Supreme Court recently ruled that we didn't have to give public tax dollars to Moms4Liberty's private "Christian" school.
I thought a much earlier US Supreme Court said tax money to church sponsored schools was okay. As long as you followed their court approved system of money laundering. Instead of the state sending the tuition cash directly to the church, the state sends it to the parent, thereby miraculously washing the taint of tax funding from the cash. Just don't try that defense on any other type of money laundering charges. It must be somewhere in the GOP bible.
A lot of that is kind of weak. It spends a lot of time shoring up the axiom that his behavior in office and before was acceptable and Presidential. I guess an article about decline needs a baseline, but there’s a bunch of sanewashing in there.
Otherwise, yeah, nice to see you squinting at daylight, NYT.
I just handed off my 2 charges (friends kiddos) back to friends after an extended babysit. Mr. Star was a team player. We're exhausted now though. Everything we planned was a success. The kids request for karaoke (at home with YouTube vids) was a disaster because the younger one can't read well enough yet. Thank goodness we didn't make yesterday's activity renting a karaoke room! Now it's time for a nap then back to regular adulting.
Well, I am beginning to form the provisional opinion that this is some new sort of style they are developing. Sort of like the nazi haircuts & etc. It's not like either of them have a sense of esthetic: Trump and his hair, and gaudy gold-plated shit; Skum with his Wankenpanzer.
There is some decent stuff on Amazon, but you have to dig around for it. They have the worst search engine out there. There are other online sites for glasses that’ll have nice ones, but they can get spendy.
Even if you are getting the drugstore ones, I think your best bet there is to get the biggest ones you can (not the little slitty half ones) and go for tortoiseshell. Black plastic rims are what you sound like you want to avoid.
I don't know. Once I admitted I needed them, I went on amazon and got a giant assorted box--they're pretty cute and not the ones that are just half--they're like full-sized and have the light blocking stuff (for computer stuff--is it blue light?). Anyway, because I know how I am I just have a pair in the living room, the bedroom, my chambers, my bag, and on the bench, plus one by the door, and I make it a habit to take them off and leave them whenever I get up so that I just move from room to room using the ones there instead of taking them with.
I also have a fancy pair that are giant and oversized (like Jackie O sunglasses) with a slightly dark tint. Those I got at the eye doctor as a treat for myself. They're my "fancy" readers and I just take them when I'm going out to eat someplace nice or on an airplane.
Get some regular drugstore reading glasses and cut some window tinting film and put that over the lenses to make them look like sunglasses. J/K -- Or am I?
Even assuming we manage to prevail in a month, the rot in the country is very, very deep and wide. It would be the committed work of a generation to root it all out, and that's in the best-case scenario that the embittered losers don't resort to mass violence to maintain their hold on power.
What chafes my ass is, that was *after* Iran Contra, after Bushie, Jr's war. Like, they felt the need to shove it in our face? Or were they very aware that it was leaps and bounds worse than all that, so had to make it legal?
What chafes my ass is watching all the Opus Dei Catholics lying at their confirmation hearings - "of COURSE I wouldn't vote to overturn Roe. That is settled law."
It can’t stand for long. It was really intended as a get out of jail free card for the PAB.
Really, pointing out that something being illegal removes it from the scope of being an official duty ought to quash the whole thing, but… **gestures broadly**
I think Biden and Harris should totally take that ruling and run with it. If Harris loses, Biden should just say "as part of my official duties as POTUS, I have to protect democracy, and I'll just let Harris pick her own slate of electors, and she can decide who to certify as the winner."
Good for the goose, as they say. Of course, under the official rules of Supreme Court Calvinball, (and that would work with either Calvin if the court weren’t packed with Opus Dei) it would immediately be overturned as not being applicable for Democrats.

SCOTUS 2021, Espinoza, i think
It actually goes back to 2002, Zelman v. Simmons-Harris.

CNN headline on the landing page: 6 days of Trump lies about Helene response
They said "lies". Has the euphemism dam broken?
I have forever known them as "untruths".
I have noticed a lot of the hosts have been pushing back harder on the GQP's lies recently.
Better late than never.
Maybe dissing Donnie is the new clickbait.
OMFG. The NYT is dissing the orange one on the front page as well.

All that money and neither Trump nor Leon can buy clothes that fit.
I think it's scorn. "A woman will get with me no matter what a slob I look like." It's a power move, and Trump has done it for decades.
You got it.

They are more like Pusillanimous Ūberdouches (PŪs) pronounced "Pee eews."
I have long said, re: TFFG, Taft was heavier, but had a better tailor - or at least one who liked him.
Well, they have turned off the entire industry of stylists...

Anyone know where to get decent reading glasses that don’t look like drugstore reading glasses?

Do you have a link to the giant assorted box that you still have around?
I'm always surprised by the nice selections in gift shops.

I find black spray paint blocks more of the UV
It worked for Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder!
So I can look like a badass fighter jet pilot?
yes
Or you can silver the lenses and look like OHJB or a fighter jet pilot.

So, I wear dentures. I recently ran out of denture toothpaste, which is less abrasive than regular toothpaste.
