On Truth Social he wrote, "I purposely didn’t comment on Nancy Pelosi’s very weird story concerning her husband, but now I can because she said something about me, with glee, that was really quite vicious. 'I saw a scared puppy,' she said, as she watched me on television, like millions of others, that didn’t see that."

"I wasn’t 'scared'," the former president insisted before adding, "Nevertheless, how mean a thing to say! She is a Wicked Witch whose husbands journey from hell starts and finishes with her. She is a sick & demented psycho who will someday live in HELL!"

Trump expects people to believe that he ever shows restraint before attacking people, and also that this is a fair response to being called scared, and that being called scared is this bad.

Some stupid ass sports pundit a couple days ago opined that the UWNT had the fame and money go to their heads, and Carly Lloyd, who I used to respect, is getting right up there on my shit list - she called the team 'arrogant.' WTF, Carly? USWNT has been arrogant Af forever, even when you were captaining the team, because they are the best team in womens soccer bar none.

Fuck you Soccer pundit - USMNT getting paid better for performing worse on their side - also miss me with the ' they compete differently and have longer seasons' bullshit. Fucking so? US soccer throws money at them left and right, and the players play on top tier clubs, yet they consistantly under perform in their side of the sport

Also USWNT were not just let down by poor play - there were some terrible coaching desicions made along the way.

Look at a Japan - that coach has them running on all cylanders and they have played multiple styles so far and to perfection. They were always technically gifted but now they have a bit of a killer instinct to them that they almost never had before (helps that they have finishers now too).

USWNT didn't do well, but it ain't because they're woke (they always have been, assholes) they simply got out smarted and out played. Which happens and is good for the team to have a reality check every once in a while.

More and more I'm taken with the notion that the Trump saga is an unholy parody of "The Great Gatsby," in which Gatsby has all of Tom Buchanan's attributes and traits.

Trump's lifelong rage has been fueled by the fact he's not allowed to be in the true Elite. It isn't just about money; there's more to America's class system than that. It's not that he's a monster; the Elite is full of monsters. It's that he's vulgar, and his nature is such that he can never not be vulgar.

His frustration at this, which he realizes but doesn't understand, has led him to this; his moment of probable annihilation.

We need a playwright or novelist of sufficient ability to capture this. Later, once we've had some time to cool down.

- Trump made a few feints at running even before the 2016 actual campaign; he just never filed to run before that.

Oh, absolutely. Trump may be delusional, but even he didn't think Americans would be stupid enough to vote for him. He had told Christie he could have his delegates after the first 3 primaries. Hell, he didn't even think REPUBLICANS were stupid enough to vote for him in a primary.

He also did the whole "the election is rigged" in 2016, until he won. It's funny how nobody ever brings that up as proof of his lies about 2020. The election is only NOT rigged, if he wins it.

Naturally, after he "won" (by negative 3 million votes) you could see the look on his face was like "yeah, I can totally do this job that I'm completely unqualified for." It must be nice to be such a narcissist and sociopath.

When my mom worked in social services in this area in the 80s, She would arrange for homeless people to live at one of the local motels. I don't know what it cost back then but it couldn't have been much because it was paid for by a modest local charity. That motel now? $5000 /month.

Here on the central Oregon coast, one of the stop gap measures has been for a few of the small cities to buy motels which have gone out of business, and sitting empty. They rehab them as short-stay motels, round up funding for their operation, and on top of providing a roof, offer some services to help people get to whatever their next steps happen to be. It's not a solution for all needs, but it's been helpful.

Correct. I was raised by left-wing intellectuals, so it took me longer than it should to have understood this. Or, compared to people who never understand this; perhaps a lot less time. There's certainly nothing inevitable or organic about America's hyper-financialized system.

I had an "A-Hah!" moment when I was about 20 years old. I got a rush ticket for cheap to see a production of a Shakespeare comedy. The usual. The Duke of Earl shows up in Act 1, Scene 1, surrounded by flatterers, to bemoan the crisis. Hilarity ensues, and the Duke returns in Act 5, Scene 5 to pronounce himself well pleased with the resolution.

Next morning, I went to work at the scene shop. I had to drive a truck of stuff to a ballroom where my company was setting up for a corporate event. When I arrived, the CEO was rehearsing.

The CEO rehearsed his opening speech, surrounded by flatterers, addressing the current crisis. The flatterers gave their speeches, offering resolution. The CEO rehearsed his closing speech, pronouncing his pleasure with and confidence in their solutions.

The light bulb went on. And I, over the next few years, developed my "Get Rich Slow" scheme, which has paid off brilliantly over the interceding 37 or so years.

I knew I could never be the Duke. The flatterers are expendable, so I didn't want to be them. But there's always a trusted procurer who is welcome in all houses, even if they're rivals, who always survives. I figured out a niche that lets me be in that spot.

Hey, I didn't make the rules around here. I wouldn't have made these rules. But I didn't take vows of poverty or mortification, either.

This is all nibbling around the edges. 'Upzoning' without concomitant affordability requirements only creates new profit centers for speculators.

The dirty secret is that leveraged flippers and mass corporate speculation has captured the housing market, creating artificial demand--over 30% of transactions are now all-cash 'institutional' deals vs. historical norms of less than 10%.

The first real shot across the bow would be an overhaul of favorable tax treatment given to real estate speculation and rentiers.

Fiddling with land-use alone without dealing with the mass securitization and financialization of this most basic human need ain't gonna do fuck-all.
