I haven’t joined in on Wonkette movie night for a while, but I will probably watch this one.

FUN FACT

Another character tells Gary Oldmanβ€˜s character to his face that he’s a monster in three movies in a row! This happened in The Fifth Element, Air Force One, and Lost In Space!

As far as I can tell It would be nearly a decade before audiences got to see him play a GOOD guy in Batman Begins. No one ever saw the Scarlet Letter so it does not count.

Just got a call with a recording saying if I want to hear a message from 819-865-7385. Nah. I don't do any business at 12:15 on Sunday, and I'm just paranoid enough to not want to be electronically linked to something I don't know about. Probably a misdial from someone in Quebec, but I still don't want to play. We were up there in October, and I did not intentionally give anyone my home number, so Nah.

So, why no coverage of the hordes of armed and violent gangs of Democrats heading for DC to disrupt tomorrow's certification of the election?

Must be the Deep State conspiracy with the Liberal Media, covering it all up.

There was very little coverage of that last time, honestly. There were hints but I only knew shit was going to go down because I had picked up on some right wing streams in the week or two beforehand. It was covered mostly like any upcoming Trump rally.

Same library system where this bullshit happened:

I wish the local police would come into the library and deal with the proud boys the same way they deal with the working homeless who are in the library to stay warm in midwinter. But never gonna happen.

The Washington Post's robomailer emailed me yesterday, two months after I cancelled by subscription (with a harshly truthful statement). It wanted to let me know that the automatic payment method it had been using did not go through, and could I please provide an alternate means of automatic payment? I replied to the bot that no, I have cancelled, and to tell everyone over there that when they decide to quit en masse and move across the street and start a new paper, I will subscribe to the new paper.

With the proviso that I detest that we have descended into battle of the plutocrats, Mark Cuban seems to be in the game for the long haul--and on the right side. He's looking to set up a deal to publish Ann Telnaes.

I guess the thing that bothers me is, it's great to have Good Guy Plutocrats on our side and I wish there were more of them; but what happens when Mark Cuban wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, or some lib says something too snarky to him, and he dediced to be a Bad Guy Plutocrat going foward. There should not be billionaires.

Major Is My Spirit Animal's avatar

I agree, but Mark Cuban seems to have a stable emotional core and as such would shrug off any criticism or actually look at it to see if there is some kernel of truth and act accordingly.

CripesAmighty's avatar

Well, we're only a bit more fucked than we are now.

(I wholeheartedly agree with your general premise, however).

The People we elected to protect us from criminals like Donald Trump have failed the nation. Not one of them should ever claim they believe in the rule of law. The 14th amendment of the US Constitution should plainly keep Trump from office. He tried to overthrow the last election and his people stormed the Capitol building armed for the kill. He stole classified documents and showed them around to his friends. (and those are only the worse of his criminal activity). AND YOUR ARE OK WITH THIS?? Yes you are, and you all are also traitors to the country, the rule of law, and the people you swore to serve. I do not know just who you serve, a felonious real estate con man, an immigrant car dealer, or people who think we should ignore medical science. YOU MAKE ME SICK! YOU! You have violated your oath of office and we will all be poorer, sicker, and less free under the yoke of a failed businessman and his talking heads from television.

I guess we can expect more of this in the next couple of weeks . . . Ukrainians realize they probably ain't gettin' much help from Washington after Jan. 19 and they better hit the Russians while they still can . . .

CNN -- Ukraine has launched a counterattack in the southern Russian border region of Kursk, warning that Russia is β€œgetting what it deserves.”

Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, an official body, said Ukrainian forces had launched surprise attacks against Russian forces in several locations across Kursk, months after launching its incursion in the region.

In a short Telegram post Sunday, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said: β€œKursk region, good news, Russia is getting what it deserves.”

The Ukrainian military first launched an incursion into Kursk in August and has held much of the territory it took, despite efforts by Russian and recently deployed North Korean troops to drive Ukrainian units back across the border.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday that the Ukrainians had launched counterattacks to stop a Russian offensive, according to the official TASS news agency. It said that both had been repelled, adding that a Ukrainian assault including two tanks and seven armored vehicles had been defeated near the village of Berdin, some 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the border.

CNN is unable to verify battlefield reports.

The Kursk offensive – the first ground invasion of Russia by a foreign power since World War II – took Russia and Ukraine’s allies by surprise when it was launched. Kyiv’s troops advanced quickly, though Russia eventually began to push their forces back; the line of control has not changed dramatically in recent months.

On Saturday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in battles near the village of Makhnovka, the Russian army lost up to a battalion of North Korean soldiers and Russian paratroopers. A battalion is normally several hundred troops.

The Wanderer's avatar

The Soviet/Russian Army lost about 80,000 troops over 9-some years in Afghanistan; Snooty Pooty has lost about 5 to 6 times that many troops in roughly one-quarter the time.

meh's avatar

There's a redditor who's tracking the number of verifiable battlefield self-unalives, and the number is astonishingly high.

It looks as though a *lot* of wounded russians elect to exit rather than waiting for their fellow soldiers to rescue them.

RocktonSam's avatar

Thanks to lil Kim for his contributions of dead guys to the russia motherland.

I think Ukraine is very fucked. Trump will cut off aid, and without U.S. backing, the EU is going to have a hard choice between keeping up their own funding for the war, plus boosting their own defense budgets, or letting Putin swallow Ukraine. Swallowing could take place over time: that is really what a "peace plan" entails.

Pope Scipio Newburyporticus's avatar

"or letting Putin swallow Ukraine"

As if that's what the limit of his ambition is? I don't think they are that dumb.

It's an existential crisis for Europe and they know it.

BradtheπŸ€–'s avatar

I’m not sure about that. Europe can see that an emboldened Putin will cast covetous eyes their way if Ukraine falls. Self interest should motivate them to continue to support Ukraine.

GiggleSnort's avatar

The problem is, it's billions of euros. Also, Germany and France, among others, have far right pro-Russian parties like our own GOP, and they are inching closer to power.

Rocket Cat's avatar

Ukraine is fucked, Gaza is gone, and Putin can rebuild his military with Trumpbucks

Saviour of Bread's avatar

Rocket Cat's avatar

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Ukraine could go nuclear in about two years if they can survive long enough without US help. Think about that.

Saviour of Bread's avatar

Russia was also involved in that treaty. They've proven to be as reliable as the US when it comes to honoring treaties.

Smol Blue Dot's avatar

Which is backing out of the deal and not even pretending to be neutral, gives them a reason to ignore the agreement. Kind of like with Iran, the US reneged on the agreement 1st.

It’s something Democrats need to learn, quit sticking to the agreement when the other side breaks it first.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

That's true. Nonetheless, they didn't give up their nuclear expertise. And what I said didn't originate with me.
