Worth reading at the NY Times today "How the Elite Behave When No One is Watching: Inside the Epstein Emails." I'm surprised they published it.

"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both" - Justice Louis Brandeis.

Anyone with two functioning brain cells would know that the USA backing a dictatorship over a struggling democracy is a non-starter. Unfortunately, we still have entities who claim that WE shoved Russia and Ukraine into war. Had one not-comment on a non-comment I non-commented yesterday, and I was so gobsmacked by the level of stupidity demonstrated I never bothered to respond.

This is an Instagram video from the Boston Globe Paul just sent me. The mayor of Boston is the Honorable Michelle Wu. I had no idea she could play the piano so beautifully. YoYo Ma lives in both the Berkshires and Boston. He lives in the Berkshires when the Boston Symphony is here for the Tanglewood Season. He lives in Boston when they pack up and return to Boston where they take up residence at Symphony Hall. They played in Boston last night and this is what happens when you put two exceptionally wonderful people that can play instruments like they can together. This is hauntingly achingly beautifully romantically gorgeous.

And no I did not cry - not a single tear.

Trump run FBI says the MAGA guy who was killed at the Trump rally with a gun acted alone.

Also trump’s ear was totally shot even though there’s not a single injury to it and never has been.

Nothing to see here citizen.

You have to wonder if someone from the campaign told him he needed to go protect the president with his AR. He had a path cleared for him, despite many in the crowd trying to get him taken out.

Old Man Yells at Cloud's avatar

I still have not seen any evidence that the intended target was not the firefighter in the crowd who was killed... and who the republicons never mention.

Expand full comment
pstokk's avatar

The problem is that any seamless plot to get the recorded outcome, and it would have to be pretty seamless, involves as much violence to credibility as the recorded outcome. Take just the ear thing. Yeah, it looks ridiculously improbable, with just the nick, the blood pattern and volume, all the weird ear nonsense in following days. But a plot that needs perfect timing of multiple actors, a death that lines up ballistically with an ear shot, a perfectly timed squib and Trump playing along in perfect timing is ridiculously improbable as well. Leaving us nowhere.

Expand full comment
Void's avatar

The bullets went nowhere near Trump. People keep getting caught up on that. His ear was never shot. Once you accept that it’s much easier to understand how to stage it

Expand full comment
John Thorstensen's avatar

Yeah, I'm really thinking that not even the most devious schemer would go with a plot that had a live bullet flying past Trump's head, even if an angel could be recruited to intervene and make sure it missed (I swear to god, I saw an AI image of that.)

Expand full comment
pstokk's avatar

If the plot was to miss Trump, then you would need a pro with a steady hand, not a disturbed young man. Also, you'd miss completely, maybe hit a chair, and you wouldn't kill someone behind him. Probably.

If the plot was to kill Trump, again you'd probably want a pro. Or if you accepted the amateur, disturbed, groomed kid, you'd train him to shoot in the chest, I'm guessing, not knowing a lot about assassinations or shooting.

A pro would not be sacrificing themselves.

So none of the conspiracy theories make a lick of sense. But there are still those nagging details and improbabilities that gave rise to the conspiracies.

I'm leaning towards aliens, myself.

Shooter was set up with a gun with a tampered windage. I feel it in my bones...

and Donnie did kayfabe with fake ear blood.

Expand full comment
pstokk's avatar

He was set up, but then sent around to buy ladders and ammo and such himself? The plot was carefully and professionally orchestrated in all details on the government side, to produce a near miss presumably, but relied on an unstable kid with only moderate shooting skills? It makes no sense. At all.

Expand full comment
Void's avatar

What if the kid was just supposed to shoot at the crowd? Them it all works out

Expand full comment
pstokk's avatar

That would still require Trump employing a squib with precision timing. And 10s maybe 100s in on the plot, SS, FBI, maybe other agencies, possibly local police. Then more people afterwards brought into the plot or threatened. All this with no leaks. And all depending on an unstable kid. What would they have told him? “You'll be a celebrated RW martyr by shooting an innocent bystander to give Trump a little bump in the polls. Oh, and go and buy your own ladder and ammo, but make sure you do it at the last minute.” Or if he was anti-Trump, “Shoot someone in the crowd, not Trump, and ….” And … what?

EyeQueue's avatar

Yep. The old rasslin' trick of hiding a razor blade between the fingers and a quick slice to whip up some blood.

TV star? Sitting at a desk and talking, playing himself. Between diaper changes. No evidence of acting ability, no evidence of stagecraft much less sleight of hand skills, much less the perfect timing necessary to match a squib with a prompt or gun report.

What people tell pollsters and how they vote when they're alone (if they vote at all) are often very different things. If we were ruled by polls, we'd be a Swedish style social democracy. When people actually have to vote on taxes, schools, diversity, climate change, etc., they suddenly get real cranky.
