Hiya, Movie Boss!

I just added a suggested Movie Night feature to the request pile, and I was a little surprised to see it hadn't been suggested: "Catch Me If You Can"

As this link points out, this film tends to be overshadowed by Spielberg's other work.

https://collider.com/steven-spielberg-masterpiece-catch-me-if-you-can-forget-jaws/

For me, this is easily a Top 5 Spielberg flick. Just re watched it recently. It holds up very well, has an incredible cast, and everything about it is as close to perfect as you'd want in a summer caper movie.

Thank you for your attention, ... etc.

Today is Navin’s birthday. I made you your favorite meal. Tuna fish sandwich on white bread with mayonnaise, a Tab, and a couple of Twinkies.

Cheers Y'all's avatar

My mom is 97 years young. Going to dinner this evening with her, my brother (rolls eyes), and his wife. Bro (rolls eyes) and his wife made the arrangements at a lovely restaurant that I am pleasantly shocked those red necks picked out. So here I sit at my kitchen / art table making her a Mother's Day card. It is a pop up card idea I saw online. Construction paper, hard stock paper, paint, markers and glue. Often times I paint her a card, but this time I'm creating a pop up card with paper flowers. I'm making a mess and feel like a kid again, but it's fun. You're never too old to make a homemade card!

At least some countries know how to hold their criminals accountable.

Look up Peru's record. They have a special prison just for presidents. Last I read, it was 3 units.

Here's a flowery object, for all the mothers out in wonklandia (this was shot long ago in my backyard, and I have no idea what plant this is):

These people have extreme delusions in defense of that awful person;

β€œI thanked him then for having the courage to fulfill his God-given responsibility to protect our nation,” Jeffress said about a meeting with Trump, a few days after the war started. β€œAnd you know, the great irony is it looks like President Trump has a better understanding of what the Bible teaches about the role of government than the pope has. And I’m glad the president hasn’t backed down at all.”

Good fucking Gawd.

The unholy alliance between religion, especially evangelicals, and this Administration is damn frightening.

I had NO idea that holding a Buybull upside down confers its' scriptural contents and the considered comprehension of the same into the intellect, chapter and verse, as it were.

And here I spent an entire summer reading the Buybull, making notes in the margins as well as documenting various specific information/observations on yellow legal pads.

Bupkus231's avatar

Jeffress has been nucking futz for just about forever. Prior to the 2012 election, he claimed that Barack Obama was "paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist." It's clear that his "faith" has been prostituted to the Republican Party.

FukuiSanYesOta's avatar

" it looks like President Trump has a better understanding of what the Bible teaches about the role of government than the pope has"

Really.

Aquaman, Real Estate Investor.'s avatar

Ah yes, I recall that section in the Sermon on the Mount about Parliamentary procedures and balancing the power of different branches of government.

freakishlystrong's avatar

A CAT has a better understanding about pretty much ANYTHING than "President" Trump. He does not understand at all the role of government, or his position in it.

Just found out there's a bunch of slavery minimisers on Bluesky, and I am worried that I am probably correct in my knee-jerk assumption that they're British.

Fucking scum.

Daniel's avatar

A report has come out from Barbados that says the British Empire took 25 million man-hours and some billions of pounds in labour via the slave trade, and so people are whingeing about Barbary pirates and the fucking Roman Empire in response.

"What about the working class in the factories in Glasgow?" "What about the Cornish tin miners?"

Fuck's sake.

noname's avatar

This is the kind of news we need to be hearing from non-US Wonkers, thanks! Their (re)actions are international in scope (in this case, calls for reparation), and we need to catch up and be equally informed.

Land Shark πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ's avatar

Should we chat about the British coal miners as well?

FukuiSanYesOta's avatar

The sugar islands were not our finest fucking hours.

Cornish tin miners? Yeah they didn't wear shackles.

The Covfefes ASAP!'s avatar

Do they minimize it if they think they'll be the slaves? Or do they assume that dynamic only goes one way?

Daniel's avatar

They're minimising it by suggesting that their ancestors were also slaves, so people need to just stop whingeing about this.

EyeQueue's avatar

Some of my gross family members here do the same thing. "Well, what about the indentured servants?"

THEY WERE NOT CHATTEL SLAVES, FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rags's avatar

I'm descended from an indentured servant who came over in the early 17th C. I can haz reparations?

EyeQueue's avatar

That is literally almost exactly what one of my stupid relatives said.

The Covfefes ASAP!'s avatar

Distant history versus recent history. Got it.

noname's avatar

It's about reparations.

schmannity's avatar

It's about freedom of association!

noname's avatar

It's about reparations.

One actually- actually- asked in all apparent seriousness if there had been any studies on the losses of life and society caused by the fucking Irish Potato Famine.

As though this is a neglected area of history.

schmannity's avatar

Irish Potato Famine, like the Holocaust, wildly overestimated!

FukuiSanYesOta's avatar

I really don't know why like like this so much.

Maybe because hot girls don't get a look? I don't know. Although it doesn't go in to "yeah these women know law and shit and I'm cool with that"

anyway

Roll all your shit out of Ukraine and it will be over, Vlad. That includes the Crimea.

I guess having ZERO tanks in your military parade for Victory Day was a bit embarrassing.

Hmmm.....end of an evil era.

I see the right wing-ening continues apace with the UK elections. :/

NEWSNATION: But we did hear a much shorter timeframe at the beginning of this. How do we reconcile the original timeline with what we're dealing with now?

GORKA: There's a very simple answer to your question -- we've just been too effective

Bupkus231's avatar

I've seen people claim that "News Nation" ( which took over WGN Chicago ) is a legitimate news organization. They're not - they're just as warped as Fix News, just not so widespread.

The Wanderer's avatar

Anyone ask him about 200+ US assets being damaged/destroyed?

PrimerGray's avatar

"Where is this new Ayatollah?"

I dunno, recovering from his injuries and keeping a low profile so you don't kill him.

He's trying to make it like their leadership is in chaos but Iran's actions show that is far from the case.

The Wanderer's avatar

I sincerely hope that, if we get a sane government in power in 2028, Gorka will be forcibly deported to Hungary.

Bupkus231's avatar

I'd rather see him deported to the Sun, but you can't always get what you want....

The Wanderer's avatar

But if you try sometimes

You might find

You get what you need . . .
