As regards Americas fixation with weapons it can get so much worse really. Giving away easily convertible semi-auto assault weapons with the purchase of car insurance or some other basic necessity for instance like $100 of groceries or tires for your car. Oh, wait...

Sounds like my dad. Wingnut through and through, loves all things military, best time in his life he says.

However, the only actual specific military stories I've ever heard him tell are how he joined up with the AF and got a REMF job, rather than risk getting drafted into the corps; and all the effort he went through while deployed in Vietnam trying to get transferred back stateside.
