I go to writer's dashboard, select "new post", and then create my post. Notes won't let you upload videos, I think, so this is my best option. You can personalize it with colors, fonts, etc, and then just start having some fun with it. Much easier than WordPress!
I personally wouldn't mind the occasional return of something like a Sundays with the Christianists post. Of course those are what lured me in lo these many years ago. I would also not object to a rotation of column types, so even if this week wasn't your favorite, next week might be. As for Top Tens - no need to reinstitute them on my account 😏
Just talked to a guy who is part of the writer's strike. He was flipping out because his checking account was over drafted by hundreds. Asked if I could do anything. I said I'd check and proceeded to reimburse 6 months worth of various fees. He ended up with a positive balance. I could've gone back a year but didn't want to push it because as it was, I was only supposed to reverse fees for the time he was out of work. But I know 6 month's worth will fly under the radar, so I did it because fuck them banks, even the one work for.
I have no trouble with buttons or chat, notes, etc. What I do find distracting are the links to previous, post-adjacent posts that take up 3 column inches. It's hard to follow the narrative with that much break. Instead of a link and the first paragraph of the post, a simple link would suffice.
In this headline, "a little confused" reminded me of one of my pet phrases "I'm a little bit confused" from Dogs by Pink Floyd. I just read the lyrics again, and this is one of their best:
This is thought-provoking. I think Vera comforted the troops and their families, including Pink's Dad who did not make it back. Grown-up Pink wishes her song was true.
Yes, all of those men and boys going to fight yet another war, knowing that many of them were not going to return home. Many of the ones that did return home were forever changed by the war and were not the same person who left.
It is the sacrifice we make for freedom. It angers me when people are casually willing to throw away our freedoms in order to install a fascist state. We stopped it once, we will stop it again, and again.
We can and will defeat fascism, but we seem unable to kill the root that keeps spreading this evil. Freedom has to tolerate those forces that would topple it; it's up to us to prevent the spread of evil and we can only do so by keeping to the facts and the truth and call out the lies whenever we encounter them.
I've been wondering the same thing for a while. All that I can come up with is that fascism comes out of a fear of change and a fear of death. Those people who accept change as a good thing and realize that all things come to an end at some point are generally more liberal or progressive in their outlook on life.
Here again, I can't agree more. Those fears of change, loss, and death get projected onto "Other" which grows to include the other party, and away it goes.
The thing about advice columns is that I don't bother to read the answers -- I just read the lurid descriptions of people's problems. Any replies with advice are probably 1) sensible and 2) not going to be followed.
Adorno wrote a really interesting book, The Stars Down to Earth, about the LA horoscope advice columns and how in the USA the answers are always about fitting in to the system and never about questioning why, for example, the work situation is actually so terrible. Worthwhile read.
Shabbat Shalom! I gotta go get ready for ! BARBIE! with my best big girl but I wanted to leave you with something that's been rattling around in my brain.
My dad turned 87 the other day and I called him bright and maybe too early because he was a little fuzzy and confused but then he said,
I've been thinking a lot about my life because it's close to an end and really the only thing I regret is not asking more questions, learning more when I had a teacher, and listening more to all the people with something to share.
Well, LOL! I have not seen the new Barbie movie yet. I find the Chud-O-Sphere's reaction to the new Barbie movie to be more than entertaining enough for now.
Pajama boys sounds kinda cute though. Who doesn't want a pajama boy?

Did y'all know we can already read the substack from E. Jean Carroll, https://ejeancarroll.substack.com/ which is sometimes advice, even! https://ejeancarroll.substack.com/p/the-blonde-embroglio
Thanks for the Sophia Loren! And I would love to read an advice column from you.

Won't you take a moment to consider the pensioners in Florida?

Sophia Smith scored TWO GOALS (and had an assist) for Team USA yesterday in the Women's World Cup so very appropriate to honor her!
as another Sophia I am very happy about about both today and the phenomenal Sophia Smith

Does anyone here remember Vera Lynn?
Remember how she said that we would meet again,
Some summer day?
Vera! Vera,
What has become of you?
Does anybody else in here
Feel the way I do?
And, over your red sea, at least your sky is blue.
This is thought-provoking. I think Vera comforted the troops and their families, including Pink's Dad who did not make it back. Grown-up Pink wishes her song was true.

I sat here and thought for a while about how fascism works and why it is easily inflamed.
All I can say is "well said man, well said."

Advice: Those who heed it don't need it; those who need it don't heed it.
Because if you heeded it, you wouldn't need it anymore
Advice column!
All I need to know I got from John Prine:

“You are what you are and you ain’t what you ain’t “
I think it's fun to think about but it would probably be a nightmare in reality.

Holy shit, dad! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Happy trails amigos!
💙Dad 😊
The best part of Oppenheimer is the dance sequence.
[The joke being, it's impossible to imagine a dance sequence in a Christopher Nolan movie.]
NO SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I recall The Joker did a dance in The Dark Night Returns...
Does he dance like Shiva destroying worlds?
Like this, sure:

He's awfully close to becoming Schrodinger's cat for a brief moment.
He dazzles with SCIENCE!

They're a little bitter to start the day with but I'm getting used to it 😁
