I don't think that people know some of the things my position entail...I mean, I didn't know these things and I was the most qualified person by a large margin. Once a month you're on call, so 24/7. On your week, you have to go in at 5:30/6 am to review the overnight stuff and do paperwork on Saturday and Sunday. During the month, you're going to have to go in at least twice a week (for me, the newbie) no later than 6 am to review the overnight paperwork and make forms and stuff.
The idea that you just, let's say, sit around and decide stuff and lounge until your tee time is really not right.
Seriously, at this point we do not need further proof that the technology is failing and that it would be better to put a big ole pause until folk can make it actually intelligent and not just a fancy aggregate of bigots online
Sadly, all the libertarian techbros and their investors think it's the bee's knees. And since crypto turned out to be a turd sandwich with extra fraud, they need something new to waste money on.
I think there are plenty who would rather not see it though due to tech evangelism, misguided belief, or nefarious intent.
That said, I agree we shouldn't be rushing to put an LLM into All the Things. You'd really think tech would've figured out how this plays out if they want to jump on a thing that sounds interesting but may go nowhere (blockchain).
But if it drives up engagement or ensures a few more clicks/installs, then why worry if a few things/people get broken?
Was my attorney joking with me when he said, "Oh shit, I forgot to tell [the people you specifically told me not to invite] that your birthday party is getting moved?" He might be fucking with me but I also doubt it.
So I have all these tabs open. A few are trackers, I have stuff coming to me.
There's one I've been annoyed with, saying arriving Tuesday. It didn't have far to go, and then it hit Richmond last Friday. Crikey, it's only fiddy miles.
So this morning it says item gets to me today. Yay!
Extra bonus: I forgot what it was, so surprise gift from me to me.
FWIW, I know you don't need any help, but when I was acting and would get nervous at an audition, I would pretend I already had the role I wanted and as a curtesy I was reading with people who were auditioning.
Interesting article here. Of course, the county commissioners are fretting over the county becoming a "bedroom suburb" of Orlando, but I'd say it's too late for that.
What would be bad about becoming a bedroom burb anyway? Lots of tax base, brings in business cause if you burb it, they will come, seems a win for a county.
Unless "becoming a bedroom suburb" is code for "the wrong people might move in"
Hmm! Sydney Morning Herald, from Down Under so I had to read it upside down, is reporting that Israel used their Arrow antimissile system to shoot down a ballistic missile fired from Yemen. Before the registration wall obscured the rest of the article, the rocket traveled over 1600 km before it were hit and went boom.
Yep. Everyone calling for a ceasefire seems a little unconcerned with the fact that Israel is ACTIVELY BEING SHOT AT and that being something that might be a deterrent to ceasing fire.
Very much so. The USS Carney was making its way north through the Suez Canal a couple weeks ago and it shot down a drone launched from Yemen by the Iranian-backed Houthi.
The Beeb's reported that Bonfire Night in Niddrie and Glasgow (which are in Scotland, thank you) was accompanied by the traditional fireworks and fires one expects for the anniversary. The night was also accompanied by riots, where crowds of yutes fired fireworks and threw bricks and gasoline bombs at the police. Eight officers were injured, and the Scottish police are saying that the riots were orchestrated by adults whipping the kids up behind the lines.
Just doing some math on Pudding Fingers finances...
Over the course of his campaign, he ended up spending $10,500+ per Iowa caucus vote.
(Probably closer to $12,000 by the time the accountants are done)
Mississippi, goddamn. Though are we really surprised?
Someone has to anchor the statistical bottom of everything, might as well be Mississippi.
Not even Elvis could break the GOP stranglehold on that backward-ass state.

The tech isn't failing.
The tech is pointing out that WE are failing. It wouldn't be portraying Palestinians that way if we didn't portray Palestinians that way first.
The tech is presented as an intelligent program. All it does is regurgitate what it is fed.
I dunno, feels a fail to me
Right, so that's garbage in/garbage out, and goes back to what CD had said.
We're failing, so the tech is failing. It''s a fancy mirror, projecting back things we'd rather not see.
Just as good a reason to put it on pause, then
Also, it is not that we would rather not see. We have no choice but to see, it is everywhere. It is that it cannot differentiate.
I think there are plenty who would rather not see it though due to tech evangelism, misguided belief, or nefarious intent.

lol he wants to do his own AI
*glances at twitter right now*
I mean, we do not even have to see this movie to know how it is gonna go, do we

It's a box!
What's in the box?!?
Final interview for a job I really want this morning. Feeling confident, but aware of the stakes. Probably shouldn't smoke up beforehand...
Go get ‘em! Save the blaze for after. 😎
Probably for the best... Thanks!
Much luck -- they'll be lucky to get you. :
Put me down as a reference!
Done!
Best of luck--I KNOW you've got this!
Thanks so much!
FWIW, I know you don't need any help, but when I was acting and would get nervous at an audition, I would pretend I already had the role I wanted and as a curtesy I was reading with people who were auditioning.
That's a good strategy! I interview well, spent a long time learning how to be comfortable around new people as an indie musician
crossing my fingers.
Thank you!
Moi, aussi!
Merci beaucoups!
Getting ready to head back into work after my lovely near-week off. Wish me luck Wonkers!
I cannot wait for a week off.
Yeah now that busy season's mostly over they can be more generous with the leave. Except holidays. We're a lil' tight there.
Start resting up for spring.
I've seen these occasionally on local waters but never this size

I used to see something like this a lot when I was a kid growing up, except with dust, up in the Texas Panhandle.
One time I ran into the middle of a huge dust devil and it filled my mouth and nose and eyes with gritty dust, would not recommend.

I see too we have added an Ohio class guided missile sub to our two carrier groups in the Mediterranean. Can fire 154 tomahawk missiles

That would be an unpleasant expansion.

Apparently drones and ballistic missiles.

Leave it to me to book a flight transiting through the ME (Doha, Qatar), then a week later a war breaks out.
