Substack doesn't know me because my girlfriend is from Canada. So posting here:

<< (7) more GOP screaming behind closed doors, (8) somebody punches out Matt Gaetz in the Cloak Room >>

I would have guessed that #8 would have accompanied the initial GOP screaming at step #2. On the other hand, seeing that thought written out reminds me: Matt Gaetz is #2, a big steaming pile of it.

So today's Tabs comments are "for paid subscribers only." I don't actually have a noncomment to make, but I do enjoy typing stuff in the blank white box and then deleting it.

Expand full comment

I thought I'd been shadowbanned :(

Expand full comment

I saw that--really odd...

Expand full comment

This has happened before; I think it some sort of glitch. Or someone forgot to click a checkbox for that article or so.

Expand full comment

It's annoying that some of us are paid subscribers, just not through Subby. A switch or something isn't checked, but it sure does discourage discourse.

Expand full comment

Amusingly, I can "like" a comment. I just can't, well, comment.

Expand full comment

Yeah, that is wierd.

Expand full comment

Me either. I reckon we should mutiny from non-comment steerage and take the ship!

Since they forgot to flip a switch on the Tabs thread, posting this here:

I would try to encapsulate the tweet this guy is quoting, but really, you need to read it for yourself.

As someone replied, "Either this is some amazing bait or this person is in desperate need of going on a long hike to find some grass to touch."

"Do you think that indigenous people went on hikes?"

Sure they did. But they took their bow.

I bet moving to a new area was quite a hike.

Wonder why that guy is tweeting considering indigenous people never did that before, because it is just a bourgeois free time occupation and therefore accelerating climate change

I agree that the GQP doesn't get anyone in office until Nov, about 3 days before the budget comes due.

For some, it's by design. They truly want to burn it all down.

I say they let a shutdown happen and then crow on TV that it was their cunning plan all along...

For about 2 days, and then they will whine that Democrats are keeping the government shut down

Today . . . in HISTORY!

(tatty fanfare)

4004 BC: Archbishop James Ussher conducts careful calculations, concludes Creation commenced. Crazy!

1850: The first US National Women's Rights Convention convenes in Worcester, Massachusetts.

1906: Alberto Santos-Dumont pilots the first airplane in Europe. Heavier-than-air flight, as opposed to airships or balloons.

1911: First use of aircraft in combat, during the Italo-Turkish War in Libya. An Italian pilot conducts a recon flight.

1970: Using natural gas, Gary Gabelich drives the 'Blue Flame' to a land speed record of 622.4 mph. Whee!

1983: 241 US Marines and 58 French Army soldiers die in two separate truck bomb incidents in Beirut, Lebanon. Fuck Ollie North.

2001: Apple unleashes the iPod upon an unsuspecting world.

That's the sort of fanfare that sounds like it's being played on dime store toy trumpets, right?

How is everyone this morning? Zyx and I got back to the pied-a-terre at a reasonable hour after another magical weekend. Had a radio do on Saturday afternoon at the old Galli-Curci theater in Roxbury, which is being refurbished, someone had a real portable, wood fired pizza oven (I have got to get me one of those). We had a fun show playing live recordings that night (I got her to tell her Japanese tourist story on the air). We had to get up early for a mushroom walk on Sunday with some local experts. Also got an oyster mushroom indoor grow bag. I'm making my black bean soup tonight. She makes me very happy.

We had a trip to the Natural History museum yesterday; we haven't been in about 7 months and it's utterly transformed. There's little inside the building I can place in the old layout. The kids were wild with excitement. But surprisingly well behaved considering just how wound up they were. They've a flight simulator now, and GirlBard giggled all the way through the butterfly one, and full-on belly-laughed as she "crashed" over and over and over again in the pterodactyl on. Boybard got scared with his first crash and stopped.

The Raucous Caucus are supposedly sniffing around Rep. Emmer's pants cuffs with a view to trying to make him Speaker, so welcome back, my friends, to the show that never ends. Will they finally get their acts together, or will all just be a grand illusion?
