I'm looking for a Borat-style banana hammock.

YES. Let’s get real SEXXXXXXY.

Today my new job in a different industry begins. I’m considering yesterday’s lousy weather (yet another record breaking heat advisory, followed by cooling TStorms) to be symbolic of washing away the past 4 months of ‘living in purgatory’ (endless heat and frustrating job searching and much anxiety about life in general) after ill-handled separation from the company of nearly 35 years. Also symbolic that this ‘renewal’ is timed close to the fall equinox.

Well, I am here in the ATX for most of the week and my attorneys back SEEMED better yesterday, but then he took charge of moving the bags so he will be working from the hotel today, I suspect. I am looking forward to being back in the office, I guess. I like getting in early and into an office before people start fussing over me.

"GOP split over shutdown risks making country ungovernable"

Uh the country is not ungovernable. But the Clown Caucus is!

Uncle Betamax's avatar

They do love their soft-soap both-sides language, don't they? Whenever the GOP show their arses and sabotage anything, it's 'congress' or 'the senate' who are to blame.

Johnny Appleseed's avatar

Though, technically, they ARE right in some instances. It IS the "congress" or "the senate" to blame. But I think we can narrow it down to a certain Party within one or both legislative bodies. For instance, I'm not so certain the GOP Senate is on the same page with the GOPers in The House. They're rarely on the same page. Yet the Dems don't seem to have as much division.

At the moment, anyway.

My outrage at Trump for his "No one wants to see that" statement has not abated. Not in the least.

Noma Larkey's avatar

Also don’t forget about that time when he was in Europe and skipped the entire military event because it was raining. Another slap in the face to our military & vets.

That was embarrassing to every patriotic American! Not so much to those who only feign their "patriotism".

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Arrrrrrghhh! Yeah, no. Yeah! I remember that. {{{Frantically reaches for Sativa in Vape Form.}}}

Yeah it's pretty enraging.

*checks couch for 2 cents*

I like suits enough on a fellow, when they are nice suits. But I've got to be opposed to dress codes since they are directly against our rights of free expression and most of them are geared toward forcing women to fit a certain mold. Since I don't like em for women, I don't like em for men either.

Also don't see how forcing someone to wear a certain thing could ever be a mark of respect for anyone in this particular country.

That being said, it is also perfectly ok to lol over someone's style choices, and Big John and his hoodies of doom are funny. Not as funny as if Concerned Susan shows up in a bikini, so she should totally do that.

Stulexington's avatar

Agreed, I don't have to like someone's choice of clothing to respect it. I feel one of the things the conservatives have robbed from us is the ability to laugh at our own side, it's all considered malicious now, even when it's out of genuine amusement.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Dress codes suck and are at least partially designed to keep people in their places. There are places where uniforms are required but that's different.

Jen's Sparkling New Year's avatar

True story: suits specifically became the sign of "respect" in order to keep poor people out of politics and the like. Cause they couldn't afford one, or if they were lucky to afford one for Sunday, it was ill fitting and uncomfortable.

Before the modern coat and tie, there was other rich people garb, but it was all about keeping the poor out.

Stulexington's avatar

Although IIRC hat and cape were for keeping the poop out. Of course, poor people really couldn't afford that either.

Teen Laqueefa's avatar

Brings to mind a short story called The Ice Cream Suit I read as a child. And yeah, I know it was made into a movie but I prefer the published story.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Yet so many people (Trump and his ilk) favor ill-fitting suits.

Jen's Sparkling New Year's avatar

But they are expensive ill fitting suits!

Honestly, I figure TFG's suits are comfortable, that is what he is going with. Draw string comfort in suit form as it were.

UncleTravelingMatt's avatar

I don't understand making fun of people who look silly throwing out the first pitch of a baseball game. I've caught first pitches from two Hall of Fame pitchers, and neither one of them got the ball to the plate in the air.

Hamilton & The Crew's avatar

Making fun of people is what cruel people do. We have a metric shitload of cruels.

Jen's Sparkling New Year's avatar

oh idk. Depends who the people are, and what about them is being mocked.

100% with punching upwards on the rich and powerful, so long as it's not about being disabled or those hilarious jokes about this or that woman being a lady of negotiable affection.

Jen's Sparkling New Year's avatar

Think generally it's just cause that honor is usually given to rich and or powerful people, and it is always amusing to see that sort make funny faces.

The Wanderer's avatar

I think that it's all in good fun. It's not like they'll kill a puppy if you don't get it over the plate.

UncleTravelingMatt's avatar

Yeah, its just a silly little tradition. There are certainly better things to pile on Stephen A. Smith about.

The Wanderer's avatar

I agree. It's like he's never heard of microphones.

Bobathonic's avatar

Maybe they were playing cricket.

MRK's avatar

Everyone looks silly, but then there are those who look like they didn't even try or practice before hand. I think the ones who wind up throwing to first base because they have no idea what they're doing are worth a mild mocking.

Today . . . in HISTORY!

1513: Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa becomes the first Spaniard to look at the Pacific Ocean. He was reportedly impressed.

1690: The first newspaper in America gets published - and canceled after the first issue, because it had an article that pissed off the colonial governor. Freeze peach!

1789: The US Congress passes twelve Constitutional amendments. Only ten get ratified by the states.

1906: Leonardo Torres Quevedo demonstrates a wireless remote-controlled electric boat called the 'Telekino,' which had people on board.

1957: Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas is forcibly integrated by the US Army.

1963: The UK government releases its report on the Profumo Affair. The Most Provocative Order of the Nights of Christine Keeler is inaugurated.

1992: NASA launches the Mars Observer probe. Three days before achieving orbit, it went silent. Tsk.

The other two, the "Keep your religion to yourself" and "No, stupid, you can't keep an arsenal in your home", amendments didn't make it.

That would have been rather rocky.

Question:

How did you get the larger font on this non-comment relative to your other non-comments?

And relative to non-comments made by others?

(blinks) It's the same font size as all the other non-comments. At least, from what I see on my monitor.

HooverVilles's avatar

Weird. Here is a screenshot of what I see. There is a noticeable increase in the size of the font of your non-comment and mine and others.

I have noticed this with some other people but it isn't consistent. I thought some had found a way to do that but since it seems random I now suspect it might be something with Substack or my phone.
