Baltimore’s mayor gave an excellent interview to NPR yesterday where he called out everyone who suddenly ‘turned into a structural engineer overnight’ for their completely unhelpful and uncalled for conspiracy theories and armchair quarterbacking. It was so refreshing to hear him push back on the bullshit.
With cargo ships getting bigger and bigger, these kinds of accidents are more likely to happen. While the US can probably not see much disruption to the supply chain with one major port closed for a while (how long, donno), between the problems with the Panama Canal being too narrow (and without enough water) and the Suez out of action for a time, the Mexican cross isthum rail/port project is likely to be much more important to the US than people realize. Too bad it's almost never talked about in the US.
