Our town should be deader tomorrow, but there's a sportsball event with 16,300 likely superspreaders at The Fieldhouse That Must Not Be Named.

We lived in Puerto Rico for a little over three years, & NYE sounded like a war zone. I had small children & a mostly-deaf dog, but the whole family essentially didn't sleep at all that night. It was a nightmare & I'm so sorry for you & the puppers.

I have a book on that in storage..."Deadly Embrace"... as I recall it, both sides were very pleased at how successfully they lied to each other.

Isn't the area of that coastal plant is still a deadly toxic mess in active meltdown to this day ... with no full containment solution nor theoretical cap on required mitigation cash-outlay?

And didn't Japanese regulators just decide to chuck the entire previous nuclear safety/regulatory framework right out the window and are now just dumping untreated high-level waste directly into the ocean?

That last bit is interesting, and kind of familiar. We didn't acquire new science showing these discharges are safe. They just changed the rules to now allow something previously identified as dangerous because all of the alternatives cost more than the Japanese government is willing to pay.

Victims won't be able to prove shit like birth defects for over a generation ... for a corporate bureaucrat, that pencils reeeeal nice.

This is familiar because before they finally just scrapped the idiotic Yucca idea, the DoE had issued guidance that Las Vegas citizens could safely withstand something like 100x the radiation exposure levels compared to residents in every other city ... because that number what they calculated we'd be hit with as a couple thousand fucking casks crawled through the Spaghetti Bowl.

Which kind of highlights the bullshit calling anything about how we deal with nuclear waste and/or disasters "science based". The industry has a storied history of basing their nuclear safety guidelines based on the math of foregone policy decisions required to keep the nuclear industry rolling.

The so-called science says humanity can withstand whatever policy makers decide to poison us with.

When these plants were our bomb factories and we were in an arms race with the USSR, there was a legitimate national security argument for the dishonesty. We're not using nuclear plants for that anymore. Now it's just dishonestly-based greed.

There simply is no solution to the waste problem. The solution doesn't exist. Absent a major technological breakthrough on that front, the only safe or clean approach to nuclear is to avoid industrial-scale civilian nuclear projects.

Yeah. While there are plenty of other nasties out there, so no idea what she has, Covid is often brutal on unvaccinated folks and kind of spreading like crazy at the moment.

She was supposed to be laying low until getting her shot in Jan ... getting on an airplane and going to a place awash in plague and unsafe practices is ... not that.
