That’s a long investment. If it’s only two more years then you already know you gotta try to stick it out. That is, unless those parameters have changed. My hubby just went through something similar with his military service, and i said the same thing. If the investment has been for this long amount of time, and he suffered through it, then two years more, in order to reach the pay bump in retirement, can be done. Texas is a red hot dumpster fire of special shitfucked circumstances right now, and I don’t envy you! But how angry at yourself will you be in the future if you don’t stick it out that short sprint to the finish line after putting in all that effort?
Actually it is just one more year…but we both feel anxiety about finances. So I project two more years just so we can have a true understanding of our full retirement $$$ and how we can manage it.

I have long advocated for the realpolitik of going after slivers of suburban voters.
However, that is a generally more educated group that is Republican out of habit or self-interest and can be momentarily engaged. The military attracts people more likely to come from entrenched anti-liberal/Democrat backgrounds.
I am - as I said - fine with promoting this reality to veterans. I merely point out that if Republicans really thought that they could be hurt buy this they would not do it.
