Next they’ll be saying Abortions are being performed after birth up until and through the Terrible Teenage Years.

So sick of this common trope. "Democrats are in favor of abortion until birth."

Nope.

Technically, yes 92% of abortions are during first trimester.. However, there may be valid medical reasons to terminate a pregnancy at any point. Very late stage procedure is very rare and risky, and only performed if there is no other alternative

As a former L&D nurse I will note that a full term healthy pregnancy will never be aborted by any sane doctor- because delivering the child is MEDICALLY SAFER and LEGALLY INARGUABLE. No woman who wants an abortion at full term is forced to take parental rights, or even hold or see the child, and the adoption is generally swift and simple on her end.

But from a medical perspective, unlike normal abortions, aborting at 40 weeks essentially is a birth- only with built-in complications. Not to mention the laws and regulations are all on the side of preserving the life of a child who can live independently. The hospital, the parents, any witnesses, all could lodge complaints (or bring lawsuits) that could very likely lead to the OB losing their license. Which is why I have zero fears about doctors being like "yeah, let's abort that healthy full-term pregnancy!"

And, of course, as Molly Ivins said so accurately, no woman in her third trimester walks past an abortion clinic and thinks "I knew there was something I'd been meaning to do!"

"yeah, let's abort that healthy full-term pregnancy!" A scenario which only exists in the fevered imaginations of right wing weirdos. I've tried to explain this to ardent pro-lifers, but to no avail. As an L&D nurse, you know that what I said is factually accurate. Later term terminations are risky and fraught with complications, and are only done as a last resort.

Likewise, I've been pointing that out forever. to little avail. As pregnancy advances, the procedure becomes increasingly more difficult and risky. Later term abortions are NEVER performed as a matter of "convenience" As a nurse, I'm sure you are aware that the medical knowledge of the general population can only be described as "abysmal" People of my grandparents generation had a better grasp. Sad but true

They want people to believe that a woman decides to terminate her pregnancy at nine months. Yes, their intended audience is that stupid.

Damned straight. In my experience, even women who never wanted children & absolutely wanted and needed early abortions can feel regret and relief intermingled- how much more so then for wanted, planned pregnancies? Our bodies generally start creating powerful hormones to make us protective and loving of our offspring before we even know we're pregnant. Abortion happens because we need it to, not because we don't care.

Cruel mother? Here's a nice version by Anais Mitchell, author of the musical Hadestown, which you should see if you are into that stuff (actual title is "Clyde Waters").

Seems like to those kind of people, a ""Department of Life" would carry out executions, just as their Department of Defense would carry out aggressive wars.

No doubt about that -- as just evidenced by the extent to which the number of death row executions went up under Donald's -- and BIll Barr's -- Maladministration.

I get frustrated because of how few people STILL seem to fail to understand how often these criminals hide their fascistic aims under innocuous names. That's PART OF THE PROPAGANDA TECHNIQUE REPUBLICANS LEARNED WHEN THEY TOOK THE TAXPAYER-FUNDED TRIP TO RUSSIA TO MEET PUTIN AND HIS AIDES ... and nobody demanded to know who they met with or what they talked about once they got back ... or even demanded their money back.

Denial arising out of complacency is just staggering to me.

Sure, will call it the Department of Life as long as the official seal is an AR-15 with a bumpstock and an extended clip mounted above the silhouette of a brown child being denied a school lunch.

It's going to be the "Department of Life" who denies ALL the children in the country free lunch.

Except the children of their wealthy patrons. They will get it because these are people who believe in the "rich people are the only ones who deserve free lunch" doctrine

They're christian. They're fascist. They lie with every breath.

If Biden & the Democratic party win this year's elections, I'm fully expecting a Sons of Jacob-style coup; the GQP is that far gone. This time, I fervently hope that the coup plotters as well as the participants will be dealt with far more expeditiously than in 2000. Those fuckers need to learn that discarding democracy bc they didn't win is not a LARP.

They very literally think that we won’t.

I have spoken to a lot of of them in situations of varying hostility, and they are wedded to the conception of liberals and normies as inherently weak willed and effeminate, unwilling to engage in blood and dust combat.

They are very invested in a very particular version of masculinity where dominance over each other and anything else that exists is paramount. They are also very attached to the idea that as white men, they are inherently more capable and more knowledgeable than anyone else.

It will be satisfying to watch that self image get shattered when they act out.

Well

There is something to the element of surprise, if it comes to that

I saw video of this ultra dumb White lady on the subway who tapped this brother with her IPAD and REALLY BELIEVED he wasn’t going to knock her back into the middle of next week with one backhand slap.

It would’ve been funny except we are here in these racist United States

The Heritage foundation guy, Pence, Spwaker Johnson, etc. are (1) calling themselves Christians and (2) lie as easily as Donald Trump.

They just have enough sense, unlike Donald, to say “I didn’t say that”, when there’s recorded of video of them saying “that” which was broadcast far and wide 48 hours earlier.

If something Pence, Johnson, etc. said on the record 4-8 year ago contradicted what they’re saying now, they’d totally blow off any questions about contradictions.

WE have NO places where people of varying political viewpoints can gather and hash out the differences. I don't believe that the "differences" are that monumental. We have a core of "rightwing" or "leftwing" zealots who insist that we all "pick a side". I call bullshit. I don't want to "pick a side" Our strength as Americans has always been our ability to get together and compromise. Once that ability is lost, we are finished,. The "Shining City on the Hill" becomes a broken down slum

Umm, wrong.

There are people who stand for the rule of law, human rights, justice, equity, workers' rights, women's rights, the rights of BIPOC and LGBTQ people, et cetera. They're called Democrats.

There's another party that stands for the opposite of these; it's the GQP. They're willing to abandon the rule of law if they don't feel it serves them. They don't care about justice; they care that their oligarchs get their way. They don't care about the rights of ordinary citizens, and in fact work against them bc it doesn't boot their corporate masters anything.
