I cut Amazon completely out of my life, but had to use them for a job. Well, Amazon totally fucked up the order. So now I'm on the phone with someone from India who I can barely understand, because her accent is so thick. She has to repeat everything three times. I've asked to speak with someone in the United States, but that's not possible. This is incredibly frustrating. I fucking hate Amazon.

Stones from glass houses, part infinity:

"Trump throws tarmac tantrum over health question amid cancellation"

“So you not going to Kansas have nothing to do with you being sick of traveling?” [asked Reuters White House correspondent Jacob Bogage of Trump].

“You’re sick to ask that question. You are sick! Who are you with?” Trump shot back.

“I’m with Reuters, sir,” Bogage said.

“You are a sick guy! Reuters is terrible, by the way,” Trump said.

“We do wanna make sure you’re doing well,” Bogage replied.

“Look at this guy! He’s way out of shape!” Trump said. “…I don’t feel I have to go [to] Kansas! I’m going to Florida tomorrow…”

Getting my costume things sorted, there is a party tomorrow afternoon for Halloween. I bought an amazing dress back in May, but it's kind-of one size too small. it was the biggest they make.

But if it doesn't fit I do have another that is pretty hot too.

Notes:

I noted a while ago: I have a curious affinity for title tracks, very frequently ones that don’t chart themselves but from disks that do or which at least the critics loved. Very much love (specifically the title tracks from) Joni’s ‘Blue’, the Hip’s ‘Fully Completely’, Lanois’ ‘For the Beauty of Wynona’, this track and ‘Rain Dogs’…

This track in particular: among other things I like the almost primitive sound of it. A guy I meet with every two weeks to talk possibilities and voicings pointed out it’s mostly because of its harmonic ambiguity: like a lot of stuff in that direction it avoids the third a lot, and it’s rarely clear if we’re in a major or minor…

Mentioned previously for this for this winter I wanna do a sorta half ad libbed studio thing: bring in some stuff with lots already in it written all to hell and gone but then see what we can add to it with the goal we want to surprise ourselves a little, starting on my own DAW, maybe bringing in a pro once we’ve got the general idea in that. Current additional goal: write something for this project starting with that idea. Avoid the thirds, start a little sinister and ambiguous.

So sorry about Patrick Stewart. He was a really decent man -- remember the clip from a few years ago with the audience member who had been abused? He opened his heart to her.

He had a wonderful voice and a wicked sense of humor, too.

At least they're not going to play Game 7 of the WNBA Finals -- the first one ever -- as a matinee game. It's on for 7 p.m. CT on Saturday.

I'll watch. I've barely followed the league up to now, but what the hell, a Game 7 is a Game 7. So I'm a bandwagoner. Sue me.

I am devastated tonight. I have learned the very unhappy news that we have lost Sir Patrick Stewart. Shakespearean giant, Duncan Idaho, Professor Charles Xavier, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard, among so many other iconic roles. I grew up watching him lead the crews of the Enterprise-D and -E (still no idea what really happened to that ship), and then leading the X-Men on the big screen.

Let’s make sure history never forgets the name Patrick Stewart. Live long and prosper.

There is a Dyson sphere-sized hole in my heart. I may need to rewatch Picard season 3.

Patrick Stewart was Gurney Halleck. Which was good, because he got to stick around longer and do more.

But I get how you're feeling.

Honestly, the scene where he calls for the atomics, and the shield wall goes kaboom, genuinely gives me goosebumps.

Oops. (I wasn’t a huge fan of that version of Dune, although I can’t put a finger on exactly why.) Stil, I can clearly remember him in the uniform, just like I can still see the test shots of him in the flown-in wig for TNG—so glad they got Roddenberry to give up that idea.

AthenaH2SO4's avatar

I do love that version of Dune, but it qualifies as a noble failure. There's a lot to love about it, but it doesn't quite pull off what it tries for.

MRK's avatar

I still think it's truer to the characters and to what Frank Herbert meant the story to be about than the other versions have managed.

Tonight we have Mediocre versus Below Average teams battling it out on Jeff Bezos Buttocks for literally nothing. It is a perfect night to arrange your Halloween costume, clean out your fridge,

or do laundry. Last place Green Meat Packers at home entertain 1st place Panthers. Different divisions so don't get excited. Greenies are 15th and Cats 18th in subjective rankings.

As Casey Stengel would ask "Out of how many?" 32. Jeffie not the smartest with the foohbah stuffs.

The Packers should pound the living shit out of the Panthers. What the hell, the Bears hung more than 50 points on them in the season opener.

Some might find it decidedly incommodious to be dumped on by Donald Trump as a “shithouse country”. Not the Norwegian tourist board, which chose instead to lift the lid on some of the nation’s loveliest lavatories.

“Are these the world’s best shit houses?” asked Visit Norway on its website, days after the US president vented his fury once more over failing to win the Nobel peace prize by describing Norway as a “shithouse country” at a rally on Sunday.

“Norway makes shit houses great again!” the agency continued above pictures of some of the country’s most striking public conveniences, adding: “These toilets are worth a visit, both when you really have to go – and when you don’t.”

Trump delivered his tirade at a rally in Michigan days before the US midterm elections. “Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually,” he declared, using a term he has previously applied to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

He added that he would welcome migrants from some countries but not Norway, “because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize”. Earlier this month, Trump denounced the decision to award the prize to Navi Pillay, a former international criminal court judge.

You can laugh all you want, but it is important to look at these crypto robberies and realize that Trump is a credibly accused pedophile. And also to laugh at everyone scammed by crypto. And to hope, if you have more than the FDIC insured amount in your own bank account, they don’t come for the banks next.

In 2012 there were some Republicans who insisted that voters could not hold Romney's Mormon religion against him when considering who to vote for. They claimed that the "no religious test" clause in the Constitution applied to individual voters making their decision.
