On the day (Dawg-willing, soon) that Assmouth curses our existence no more, I believe the GOP will eat itself. The only thing keeping its current mutant collaboration of fucknuts together is Assmouth himself. When he goes (again, please let it be soon) his influence goes with him. Nobody else has his particular combination of showmanship, ability to deny reality, and sheer willingness to do or say anything to secure power. There are plenty in the GOP with one or two of those, but nobody who can keep the Cult together. The only question is whether they will also splinter the country as the party crumbles into irrelevance.
Monday, I noted a special election in Iowa's 1st Senate district to keep an eye on. This is a swingy district, normally with a slight Republican edge but willing to go Democratic every now and then. Anyway, they had their election yesterday, and Democrat Catelin Grey kicked some ass! It's a TWENTY POINT shift in the vote, and an 11 point victory!
In addition to being a very good omen, Grey's election breaks the Republican supermajority in the Iowa Senate, limiting Kim Reynolds 's ability to steamroller her appointees through without opposition or a real hearing. As I understand, Dems can throw up procedural hurdles now and at least cast some daylight on these roads.
Risky but possible. They would need an understanding commander who would let them slide, or would have to prove that an order was illegal and they didn’t need to follow it. I’d like to think there are a few out there who are in the Guard because they wanted to do some good, but have the money to hire a first-rate lawyer to defend them when they tell Assmouth to eat a bag of dicks.
As to a Trump death watch based on his obvious morbidities, I feel I have to caution us with the example of Mitch McConnell. Our enormous medical advances that keep people alive in spite of extreme morbidities, and their especial availability to the political elite and wealthy, has its tradeoffs.
How is it every single day I learn a new word here at the mommy blog? It sure seems like a flashback to my cat'lic school days where hard ass nuns insisted we learn 10 new words each day...or else.
Today's word is from *The Fucking News* tab and that word is 'haboob'!
Back in the late 2000s, I remember a letter to the editor in the newspaper in Arizona bemoaning the "new" meteorological term haboob and how we should "think of the troops" and how they must feel, returning to 'Merkin soil only to see an Arabic word in the newspaper.
It really was that overwrought and stupid. Haboob. It's a great word, and it describes literally one thing. A scary thing at times; I got caught out in one doing fieldwork in the desert one evening, and it was definitely a minor haboob. I also once watched from a hilltop as one rolled through below, ripping the roofs off the less well-constructed houses.
