Monday night on the eve of the Virginia vote I got a pleading message from WaPo asking me to resubscribe "for only $40 a year! (for the first year)." * *("$140 a year thereafter")I wrote back to their marketing division that Jeff Bezos should pay me $40 a week (for the first year) to read his hypocritical crap, and then $140 a week thereafter, since all the good journalists there have left and gone to Substackworld -- to which I subscribe happily.
Then yesterday they wrote me again: just $1 a week!!! for my first year as a subscriber! Which is fucking 25% higher than $40 a year the day before.

I also, as a math geek, want to point out that this is super dangerous for the GOP, because gerrymandering requires winning by thin margins, and if they messed up the expected vote counts by even a couple of points, they could accidentally turn their State blue. You know, when vote counts have been 15-20 points left of traditional numbers.

I see their trumpabilia all the time when I drive five minutes out of town, but it’s like they never do the reverse. Maybe there’s some teleportation or memory loss involved.

If you want to pay attention to the propagandist of the proven rapist Trump, they are all saying this was a very close election, which means it doesn't count. Just to make sure you understand the numbers:
The Virginia election passed 51.%% to 48.%%.
The greatest landslide in the history of this country was by the proven rapist Trump in 2024, where he won, wait for it, 49.8%-48.3%.
So, we all should start referring to the Virginia election as the greatest landslide for democracy ever. And, heck, it even got a majority of the votes, something the proven rapist Trump never did.
