I usually end up petting a dog or two when I’m out doing my stupid human tricks; recently I came across a huge, floof of a Samoyed. I didn’t just pet, I hugged it! So soft!

We had a Samoygle - a Samoyed/beagle mix. She had floppy ears, a Samoyed smile, and a big bushy curly tail.

Of course I had the "luck" to have a deaf Samoyed that was quite aggressive. I rescued him from a kill shelter as he was a very fluffy puppy. The grooming took hours. He lived to be 16 years old and even if he was deaf he was a good watch-dog.

I visited friends this weekend and one of the cats I met was doing the same to me although I was sitting up having coffee. My friend said the cat was generally nervous around new people so they were surprised she was like that. I'll take it as a compliment. It's either that or I smelled so off to her she insisted I be covered in her own face oils.

My cat (RIP!) actually kind of did this with me! So a couple of years ago, I had a tumor in my upper thigh that was a rare form of sarcoma, which my doctors kept insisting was a lipoma to me for months.

My beautiful boy, who passed away in June of this year & who I miss SO much, started to act weird & want to be in my lap 24/7 right before I found the lump. As time passed, he was getting super clingy...like he would get growly angry if I tried to move him from laying in my lap, next to where the tumor was. He was never a growly boy before that. His behavior around the lump was so odd that it made me push to have it removed, just in case.

Well, turns out that was a great idea because the doctors were wrong & it was not a lipoma , it was cancer. I had 2 surgeries to try to get clean margins, & I've been cancer-free since.

If it weren't for my boy, I wouldn't have had it removed when I did, & I likely would've had to have my leg amputated. I will be forever grateful to him. <3

I saw a story over the weekend that featured several anonymous quotes from DNC staffers, and one of them said, in reference to trans rights, "we don't want to be known as the freakshow party," signaling that he thought the democratic party needed to move further right on social issues. It featured another quote from a "centrist" democrat representative who said, "I don't think biological boys should be playing girls sports." It made me so sad to see that. It tells me that the DNC fundamentally doesn't know what the fuck it is doing, and that some democrats actually want to be republicans.

Expand full comment
Sgt JMK's avatar

That second quote is from Tom Suozzi, a Long Island Dem who is literally next door to a GOPer.

He started his political career as the mayor of Glen Cove, which is a town (they claim it's a city) that kind of prides itself on its insularity and is pretty conservative, and then as Nassau County Executive... one of only three Democrats to have held that office since 1938.

He routinely praises himself for being very "moderate" and saying the GOPer things he claims "real" Democrats think... to the point that he's basically a stress-test of the idea that the Democratic Party is a big tent.

Well I wish that Bernie Sanders would tell me what the working class wants because I can't figure it out. It certainly isn't health care, or a living wage. It certainly isn't the right to bargain, the right to a safe and clean working environment. So is it cheap eggs? It's the fucking eggs, isn't it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Shy. Was there just something in the air this past weekend? My wife spent Saturday night and most of Sunday at the hospital with one of her closest friends, who had to have surgery to remove a large gallstone (or maybe they just took out her whole gallbladder, Mrs. JC wasn't sure when she was telling me about it while packing to leave).

// If Elon Musk, who just sent his lawyers to get involved in the case, wanted to buy it for him, maybe he should have bid while the auction was ongoing! //

I did not read the linked article, so it might cover this already, but I was just reading about this earlier today on Law and Chaos. Lawyers for the site formerly known as Twitter have filed as an interested party who might have a stake in the outcome -- something that's apparently pretty par for the course -- and they're doing it because one of the things on the auction block is Alex Jones' Xhitter account. Where it gets interesting is that previous cases have established that social media accounts are fair game to be auctioned off and sold to cover bankruptcy like any other personal asset, and Leon's Not-See bar has never moved to interfere with such a sale before. So we're all waiting to see if they're going to try to preserve Jones' social media reach as a very special favor to a very special boy.

Rebecca, I am probably the last Wonketti to hear of Shy in hospital. What?!? I hope he will be OK and can come home soon. HR9495, the one that would give the Treasury Secretary unlimited power to strip any non-profit organization of its tax-exempt status and declare it a terrorist organization? WHY DID 52 DEMOCRATS VOTE YES ON THIS ONE? It hasn't passed yet, but they're bringing it up in the House again this week. I understand that they should figure out how to fix the unlimited number of non-profits being created to fuck up the USA and get tax-exempt status, OK. But as it is currently written, not good Bob.
