You're right, of course. That's why, as I said in my other non-comment, my remarks on the divergent meanings were definitely not meant to excuse/explain the specific assholery in this story.

We all knew "lynching" was going to go mainstream when Clarence Thomas whined about his "high tech lynching" and was rewarded with a Supreme Court seat.

There is a “man” on trial for the crime of lynching this very day. His name is Derek Chauvin. If it was not for the video he would not even be on trial. I hope he spends the rest of his life in jail, but, of course, he will not and we all know why.

sharon, you didn't get fired because you're a racist, you got fired because you're shitty at your job. you have a TV show where you want people to tune in to listen to what you have to say. people do not want to tune in to listen to you say racist garbage, if they wanted that they would change the channel to fox news (where I'm sure there's a job with your name on it, sharon) if you work at arbys and someone orders a sandwich and instead you hand them a plate of dog shit, you will also get fired, see how this works?

The photo he uses of him shooting his cuffs says everything about him.

"a high tech lynching"...was the quote of Clarence Thomas, who should not have ever become a traffic court judge, much less a Federal appeals court judge, then Supreme Court judge. That the Federalist Society/Bush administration/Republican Party chose and promoted this guy should remind people how long Republicans have been fascist. Had I been Joe Biden, I would have reminded Thomas that he had a lifetime appointment, and called the next witness. (There were more than several women who had experienced the same creepy harassment) Instead, they left Anita Hill in the "he said, she said" limbo, and Thomas continues to shred the Constitution as his personal revenge for being "dissed".

So true. The sexism went deep, too, and cut through racial lines. There were black guys I worked with who told me Anita Hill was lying and being vengeful because Thomas ditched her for a white woman. SMH. Diversity can be difficult, even though it's worth the struggle.

And it's not only Ozzy's money. She inherited a pile from her father, Don Arden, who was the most gangsterish music promoter in England.

They didn't charge him with a high enough degree of murder to keep him in jail for even 20 years, according to the sentencing guidelines ...

As with many things, the original meaning has been lost. Now it is a buzzword for the right. I know when I hear it some awful racist rant is coming.

I read this morning that the bow area had taken on water but it was contained to a relatively small area but the ship will need repairs.

During lynching's heyday, Black people frequently lost their jobs because of racist bullshit. We don't consider this lynching, just less flammable racism. Lynchings occurred without due process. There were no “probes" from human resources or even the courtesy of a sham trial. Black people were often wrongly convicted on flimsy evidence or through forced confessions, but sometimes white mobs just couldn't wait to execute us.

Hold on. We need to rest here for a minute because the hyperbole around "cancel culture" usually claim this doesn't happen.
