OMG, when I tried putting an Airfix Spad or DH-4 together I got glue all over everything including my fingers and clothes. After a while I decided they were not my thing.

People who, at some part of their lives, engaged in the assembly of plastic model aircraft

(like an certain unnamed Wonkster) are very familiar with the use of decals. The kits come with the required markings to make the the finished product look representative of the real thing. When I was young I was an avid "kit basher". Once the kit is finished an airbrushed matte clear coating is often applied to hide the edges of the appliques. Here's an old kit showing the decal sheet. Cats do poorly at this.

The claws are great for peeling of the backing, although they lack the necessarily dexterity for much of the assembly.

Menotsure's avatar

They might eat the decal once removed.

We have some "frosted" looking ones of leaves and whatnot that Partner put on to warn the birbs that there's glass in these windows, and the cats were curious about them for a while, then they got jaded and bored and ... well, they're cats.

Lblomg's avatar

“How much is that kitty in the window…” 🎶

Jen Lacks a Domesticated Bone's avatar

I got some pretty hand painted jewel humming bird decals on account of male cardinals being assholes and not recognizing windows.

Every once in a while, Percy makes a leap for one of them.

Cats don't really have memory retention I think

Suel J's avatar

Well! I installed a zen curtain. A strip of wood along the top of the window. Parachute cord strung every couple of inches to the sill, hanging loose. It moves and flutters. In the wind it sounds like quiet rain. Not one bird strike in three years. I stopped even seeing it after a day.

Ric Grenell! I haven't thought about that little flit since he disappeared under the tarp at the Kennedy Center. If he stole money on the way out, that's understandable; he needs it, because who's going to give him a job now?

If a women is threatened with execution because of having had an abortion, I suggest what she should do (if all else fails, that is) is get pregnant again before they can shoot her (or whatever their preferred method is). By their own logic, they can't execute her.

That Washington Sun article on Kamala Harris, is so good, and so true. Ta, Rebecca!

Chemical's avatar

She got handed a shit deal. Ideally, President Biden would have announced he wasn't seeking a second term sometime around midterms, and there would have been a real primary. Instead, she got thrown into the fire some 100 days prior to the election. They prepared her to be president, but didn't prepare her to campaign for president.

However, I can understand a few Democrats not wanting her to campaign for them. I'd wager that in some of those states, Kamala Harris's popularity is considerably less than the candidate themselves, so fears about her dragging them down aren't entirely unreasonable.

We shitcanned the only person to ever beat Donald Trump in an election. He should have stayed in. He would have won. All the talk about his cognitive decline would have put a spotlight on Trump's mental problems.

Alpaca22's avatar

She also got really crappy advice from consultants. She had been doing really well until she suddenly started sounding like a generic politician

Chemical's avatar

True. She did come out of the gates strong. I'm almost convinced that some of these consultants wanted her to lose the election.

"MS NOW’s Jen Psaki argued that Donald Trump delivered “his most unhinged performance” to date at a 2026 midterms campaign rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on Wednesday. Psaki claimed Trump is now “unraveling at a pace we haven’t really seen” and “making less and less sense” as he and the GOP suffer poor polling just weeks ahead of the elections.

She described as a “bizarre tangent” about how the doctors he travels with would essentially let someone die in front of him:

"I travel with more doctors than any ... if people get sick in the audience, they don’t, they leave them alone. You know what they call them? Collateral damage. If that person, right over there, a friend of mine, he looks like shit, actually. He looks like he’s ready to have a heart attack. If he actually had a heart attack, you know what my doctors would do? They’d follow the president or presidents? They would leave him alone. I’d say, ‘Please help him.’ ‘No, sir. We can’t leave your side.’ I said, ‘But he’s dying of a heart attack.’ ‘Sir. He’s collateral damage.’ Can you believe it?”

Psaki was stunned by Trump’s claim: “I’m sorry, what? What? Also, that’s not what they would do.”

Psaki earlier acknowledged it’s easy “to dismiss whatever nonsense falls out of Trump’s mouth on a given day” because there’s so much of it, and “the nonsense is after all part of the strategy” to distract She argued that “every single Republican in every single race in the country should have to answer for the things Donald Trump is saying right now,” reeling off some of Trump’s more controversial comments, including his call for government leakers to be shot, his thanks to Qatar for his new Air Force One and his boast that high oil prices are actually a good thing."

Man that's a load of bad news. That poor kid arrested when he had a solid alibi. Law enforcement and DAs have way too much power and not nearly enough accountability.

Despite Trump’s claims of having full confidence in Wiles, one unnamed senior elected Republican said Trump had brought up the names of Stephen Miller, his deputy chief of staff, and Randy Levine, the president of the New York Yankees, as possible replacements, per Playbook. [HuffPost/Politico]

Jeff, still got my guitar's avatar

The only way she leaves is if she quits. He's not firing her, he's too far gone to find a replacement.

Alpaca22's avatar

she also knows way too much about all of them

devourerofpancakes's avatar

She's a woman and he is only allowed to fire women, apparently. Miller and Deputy chief of staff are probably already behind a lot of the WH actions already.

Ta, Rebecca. Ta, Martini. Loved your history of decalcomania, known when they were most popular with kids as cockamamies. Beloved husband Meccalopolis served us flowery white tea and I made our colorful, nutritious fruit bowls. Good day, beloved Wonketteers. We love and appreciate you all and we bless us all with love, health, peace, and grace.

Please, please stay safe. Wear a mask or two, wash your hands, sanitize when you cannot wash and let the sanitizer dry completely, stop touching your face, take Vitamin D, get a booster shot six months after your last, catch up on any other vaccines you need, and get any kids in your family vaccinated as well, and stay the fuck away from us and anyone with whom you do not share a roof. Do this because you love yourself, and because we love you, too. Do this in memory of 27 Club member Treg, Holly's heroic pilot friend Tony, Dolly Parton, who put up a million dollars of her own money to make the Moderna vaccine possible, and nearly eight million dead worldwide, possibly including Gav, who had long COVID. Do this to honor the nurses and other frontline medical personnel (we love you, medicos of Wonkette, from student to active to retired), especially ICU Hera Mrs Land Shark RN. Stay safe. When we vote, we WIN!!

I love you, darling. Good morning, Wonks. We're off to Tannersville for lunch then we'll be taking in the falls at Kaaterskill, dinner and the vintage mall in Hudson, and then Mushroom Church (a gathering for foragers).

Hi Rebecca, I've just discovered Wonkette and I'm so happy I did! I wonder if you might be interested in including my posts under the Wonkette banner. I don't have a newsletter, just some unimaginatively titled "What I learned today" posts but I think my sense of humor and rage might fit in. I can be found here: https://substack.com/@loriayre. If not, I'll just continue to include some references to your writers in my posts. I like the rundown you did today.
