I've noticed that many nerds dislike BBT. I know of two possible explanations: - Every single character is a terrible person and watching terrible people is unpleasant. - It hits a bit too close to home, they recognize some of themselves in the neutral parts of the characters so they feel personally insulted by the negative parts.
I checked which one it was, and it was not what I was expecting. I expected something black humor-y, something horror-mirthy. It was just the concept of laughing so hard you cry. Interesting to see that that is too over the top even for Americans. Normally for Americans everything is AMAZING and AWESOME instead of just nice or OK.
Especially if those "other people" are, well, you know.
