I have a goat feta cheese risotto from a fancy-pants restaurant in Colorado, and I imagine adding baby parts would be amazing in it.

No... apparently, the theory was that a person who died "before their time" still had their "life force" post-mortem, making body parts (and blood) from, among others, executed criminals and accident victims in their teens or twenties, exceptionally valued as medication. In a way, this still exists today, with the very rich having infusions of "young blood".

Shades of Elizabeth Bathory. Yikes. I'd heard of the craze for grinding up Egyptian mummies and using them as medicine-- and nearly cried, thinking of all the knowledge we must have lost that way-- but not about the 'life force' thing. How horrible.
