Uh, why would IT workers (assuming you mean information technology) be involved here? I got that the original post was referring to "hicks from the sticks", not them.
And for what it's worth, diabetes can be genetic. I got it late in life, as did my mother (who died of cancer, not diabetes), as did her father (my grandfather), who got it when he was 90 (he died at 95). Point being that one CAN eat healthily and still get diabetes, or cancer, or have a heart attack, etc., anyway.

Yes diabetes is absolutely genetic, but the amount of refined sugar people consume has gone WAY up since the 1900's and the advent of refined sugar in processed food products. Type 2 adult onset diabetes does have genetic factors. But those factors have to be triggered. The trigger is usually a crapload of sugar.
