"We bought the son of a bitch and then he didn't stay bought."

[Said about Theodore Roosevelt.]

That is how the machine Dems and their supporters feel right now. They bought the office of NY Mayor and now some total usurper is coming to evict them.

So lemme get this straight: Trump ushers in a Soviet-style command economy with 10% (for now) acquisition of Intel, and that's kewl, but Mamdani wanting to use the same government to help people eat affordably and well is the beginning of Soviet bread lines? I've traveled recently to Europe, and gone to museums and on tours over there, and I watch history docs and read a lot... but even before I did all that I was always pretty good at spotting the looney in the right-wing logic-o-sphere. People need to get out and look around. Fu-king-ay.

Maybe it's time for a new political party. A party that's not Republican and not warmed over Republican (mainstream Democrats). But a party that actually speaks for the people, call it the Socialist-Democratic party with Mamdani as its leader,

I like that very much. The Dems are worthless. Have been since nixon.

Ta Marcie. As a fan of democracy, I had no room on my ranked choice ballot for Cuomo or Adams. Mamdani's primary campaign was brilliant, and he's our next mayor. Or else.

This is by far a strange race. The incumbent is in a distant third place because of a corruption scandal. One major party candidate is a complete joke with no hope of winning. A former democrat is courting Fox voters in NYC. And the young, energetic candidate who is full of ideas for making life in the city better is scaring the establishment.

So Andrew Cuomo is touting the approval of the stupid, stinking mass of (reputedly) human flesh known colloquially as the Dotard and Pussy Ass Bitch to get votes in a city that detests both of them. What a monumental dumb fuck.

At the national level the two parties rule the roost. Third parties have to be MASSIVELY funded to stand even a remote chance. They usually act as spoilers or even false flag operations funded by one of the two majors to draw votes from a rival.

By the gods, you are going to make me defend Cuomo:

"As opposed to the very safe way Cuomo killed thousands of elderly people in nursing homes by exposing them to COVID?"

And you cite to a House Republican news release from 2024?

Cuomo should be defeated, but what he did was not ridiculous at the time. The is when New York's hospitals were being overrun (Here is a report from Late March of 2020 for those who have forgotten: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7s6n_ySkmQ )

What Cuomo did, for better or worse, was allow hospitals to transfer non-symptomatic patients at the end of treatment back to their nursing homes to free up space for those in critical need. In March of 2020, that was not unreasonable. Now, his handling of it once the fascists started attacking was terrible (he should have just said the above sentence over and over), but the actual action, given everything, shouldn't be looked at only in the lights of the House Republicans and their sycophants. Might as well claim that the potato chips had bats and pangolins sneeze on them as is customary in China.

Can Pritzker declare a statewide emergency and mobilize the entire Illinois Guard so Assmouth can't use any of them? I mean, the school year is starting, there's a three-day weekend coming up, and we've got a fascist in the White House -- those should all qualify as emergencies.

US president attempts to circumvent 1989 supreme court decision which said flag burning is protected speech"

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: "If you get before a bunch of high schoolers and tell them that it is forbidden to have sex in the back of a pickup truck parked in front of the police station ... the results will be completely predictable.
