Kerry was a war hero and later an anti-war activist who testified before Congress.
And the god damned fucking Republicans made fun of him. They took his heroism and laughed at it. I will never forget it until the day I die. I don't know how he tolerated it without exploding.
The exit polls showed that Kerry had won Ohio. There was much confusion voiced on the TV shows reporting the results. The Ohio Secretary of State was a slimy, weaselly Republican, and there was much speculation about the way he had oppressed certain voters. (I could swear that some networks called Ohio for Kerry, then un-called it, but I can't find any evidence of that now.) It was officially called at 1am.

Reminds me of when I somehow was forced as a college student to see one of those “Left Behind” movies. I came from a family of atheists and highly educated ones, at that. In addition, I’d read a great deal and had made it a point of attending various faith's Saturday and Sunday meetings. I was 17 and it didn’t scare me a bit. I found the whole thing ridiculous. Just made me realize how much people hate other people.
I attended music school in the 1980s, and I can tell you they absolutely tried to indoctrinate me. Believe it or not, they almost had me convinced that John Cage's 4'33" was a legitimate piece of music.

Why can’t the faculty and administration of Hillsdale College/Manhattan College/Claremont College be fired for persecution of/discrimination against left wing/liberal/socialist/radical believing students?
We had a Randian Objectivist Club on campus and every other campus organization told their members not to mess with their postings or they would spend the rest of the semester taking yours down.
Uhhh…devotees of Ayn Rand are as contentious and as wierd as she was. “Do not change a word of Atlas Shrugged! No, I will not let an editor remove 200 pages of obscure philosophical ramblings to try and make a readable book out of it! Did Tolstoy let them edit War and Peace?”. (Aynnie, and Paulie Ryan, War and Peace is a great novel. Prince Andrei is to John Gault as Brie is to Velveeta.)
I was a professor at U Maryland during the presidency of Bush II. I don’t recall these college republicans, but I wouldn’t: I rarely had cause to go to the side of the student union where these tables were set up, and aggressively ignored them if I did. Student activities were for students, not faculty. Safe to say, they were not oppressed nor was there any political indoctrination going on. I did get into an argument with a local opinion columnist about this: he was a right-wing crank who insisted that political indoctrination was going on, and would not take my lived experience to the contrary as a valid answer. We’re not all political scientists; most of us teach things that don’t even pertain to what the wingnuts are blaming us for.

But, everyone making under $100,000 is exempt, and everyone is retirement eligible after 30 years of paying taxes, making many eligible at 45, with minimum monthly retirement benefit of $2500, tax free, and minimum wage is $25 an hour. And take the 50% billionaires should be paying and reduce the deficit to zero in 5 years.

It took me a long time to become politically aware. I don’t think most college kids should be stomping their feet and screaming about any political ideology. Go find yourself and your humanity first. Maybe it’s just me. I wasn’t a fully formed human at age 20, or 22 or 25. I’m probably not now, in my 50s. It took Barack Obama to get my attention. And I had attended a rally for W. in 2000. Somewhere I have a Polaroid of me with cardboard cutout Bill and Hillary. It wasn’t unflattering, so I’m not sure why it was there. I remember almost nothing from that George W. rally. When I imagine it, all I can hear is Will Farrell saying “America, Jesus, Freedom. What does it mean? Hell if I know, but people love when I say it.”
Obama inspired people, he didn’t just provoke anger or make promises.
It’s interesting, I received a mailer from Turning Point USA recently. Not sure why. It contained a booklet marked “Constitution” and included quotes by mostly conservatives and some celebrities. On the back was Ronald Reagan. I wondered why it wasn’t Trump, who is a far more transparent nihilist than Reagan. But maybe that’s the point.
