Pro-lifey Oklahoma State Rep Doesn't Care About Your Smartypants Kid's 'Potential To Benefit Society'
Every sperm is sacred, every life is precious, and every fetus just might be the next Mozart or Jesus or something. That's what Oklahoma state Rep. Mike Reynolds (R-OF COURSE) believes, which is whyhe introduced the Personhood Act of 2013 earlier this year: to protect every life, or potential life, or potential thought about a potential life. Because he really, REALLY cares about that kind of thing.
Unless ... Well, unless we're talking about the potential of already-borned kids what seem bright and smart and could maybe be the next Mozart or Jesus or something if they could afford a halfway decent education. When it comes to those kids and their potential? Rep. Reynolds is the honey badger, and he don't give a fuck, according to an email exchange with his Democratic colleague James Lockhart, published by Oklahoma Democrats.
It all started when Lockhart shared a text from the parent of full-of-potential Austin, who's "got a 4.39 GPA, 32 ACT, 98 ASVAB, loves schooling, wants to pursue a doctored degree," and can't qualify for financial aid. Lockhart implored his colleagues to, you know, maybe do something about that because, Lockhart writes, "It’s OUR JOB to see this kid get an education. We want our best and brightest to receive an education that lets them reach their full potential."
You'd think a dude who is obsessed with protecting the potential of the children what are our future might be interested in, you know, the potential of the children what are our future. But that would make you an idiot. Rep. Reynolds responded to Lockhart:
It is not our job to see that anyone gets an education. It is not the responsibility of me, you, or any constituent in my district to pay for his or any other persons education. Their GPA, ACT ASAB, determination have nothing to do with who is responsible. Their potential to benefit society is irrelevant.
So fuck off, Austin, with your potential. And fuck off, all the other kids of Oklahoma who might have the potential to benefit society. That's irrelevant. Reynolds's job is to make sure those kids fulfill their potential to be born. Beyond that? You're on your own, suckers, because in the United States of Oklahoma, it isn't his job, or your job, or anyone's job to give an eighth of a fuck what happens to those kids once they're borned.
