Golly darn it, even with the election of Donald Trump, the forces of Political Correctness continue to run amok, forcing a nice West Virginia lady out of her job at a county-supported nonprofit in Clay County, West Virginia, just for making a little teeny totally racist joke! Pamela Ramsey Taylor was removed as head of the Clay County Development Corporation after celebrating Donald Trump's election on Facebook, and the imminent return of a Real Classy Lady Who is Not A Negro To The White-Again House:
Clay Mayor Beverly Whaling replied, "Just made my day, Pam." Now what, we ask you, could possibly be wrong with a little chat between old friends out in public on the internet where everyone can see it? And yet people acted like calling Michelle Obama an ape in heels was racist, somehow! An online petition soon called for both women to resign their jobs, simply for expressing their openly racist opinions. (Yes, Deleted Commenters of the future, people depicted Bush as a chimp. You know why that's different.)
In a subsequent conversation with Jatara McGee from teevee station WSAZ, Ms. Taylor explained she was real sorry, and that following her post, everything that's happened to her has been a "hate crime" against her; in an update WSAZ says Taylor has received death threats against herself and her children, which is of course wrong. The internet does indeed suck. For instance, it allows bigots to be bigots in public, and idiots to send anonymous threats. Ms. Taylor told the TV station she will file a lawsuit against people who have slandered or libeled her, so we guess we should be very careful in clarifying that threats against a casually racist white lady are bad (and also violate our own rules for commenting).
The mayor, Ms. Whaling, issued a statement to the Washington Post to clarify that she wasn't even referring to the "ape in heels" part, which obviously she just sort of overlooked:
“My comment was not intended to be racist at all,” she wrote. “I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not of any way racist!“Again, I would like to apologize for this getting out of hand!”
She is so very unracist that she completely missed the racist implications of calling Michelle Obama a big ol' uncivilized, classless ape who is utterly without the dignity, class, or beauty of America's next first lady, who will be the first First Lady to have cavorted naked in a fun threesome soft-core nekkid photo shoot that Jesus would be fine with. Not that there's anything wrong with that, especially since she's not an ape.
