Senator Mazie Hirono Has HAD IT With You Motherfucking Men In This Motherfucking Place!
Attention, men: 'Just shut up and step up.' That about does it.
Senator Mazie Hirono, Democrat of Hawaii, has pretty much had it with the Republican plan to bulldoze Brett Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court despite Christine Blasey Ford's credible accusations against Kavanaugh. Hirono said so, most undaintily, during a presser yesterday. It was as eloquent an expression of no fucks given as we've heard lately, and damn well about time.
Hirono said she expected "all of the enlightened men in our country" to "rise up to say we cannot continue the victimization and the smearing of someone like Dr. Ford." She also said, as did other Democratic senators who called for an FBI investigation, that Ford shouldn't have to testify in a loaded hearing:
And you know what, she is under no obligation to participate in the Republican efforts to sweep this whole thing under the rug, to continue this nomination on the fast track and to participate in a smear campaign and basically a railroad job. This is what they did to Anita Hill.
Oh, look! Video of Mazie Hirono being a badass as the presser went on:

I think we all know when something is unfair, when something smells. This is so patently not fair to her and what really bothers me and gets me so angry is that the White House is victimizing this person. Why don't we get that out there? Why should we participate in the victimization of someone who has the courage to come forward?
Then a reporter asked whether the presence of four women on the Judiciary Committee -- all Democrats -- could at least counterbalance the Republican effort to rush through the minor inconvenience of an accusation of attempted rape. You can almost see something snap as Hirono asks why the hell that should be a job for the women on the committee:
Of course it helps there are women on the committee. But you know what, I expect the men in this country and the men in this committee, because we all signed on to this letter, to demand an FBI investigation. But really, guess who is perpetuating all of these kinds of actions? It's the men in this country. And I just want to say to the men in this country: Just shut up and step up, do the right thing for a change.
Hirono added, "You can see that I'm a little upset by this, the unfairness of it." And she spoke for millions of us disgusted by Republicans' pretense that this is anything like normal.
Hirono also said she found Ford's account "very credible," and said, "It's shocking, but not surprising, that President Trump is not okaying the FBI investigation so that there's at least some attempt at corroboration." Without an investigation of other evidence, like an interview of Kavanaugh's pal Mark Judge, or the counselor who Ford spoke with, Hirono said, Ford would be essentially alone against the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee and the full power of the Executive branch's support for Kavanaugh: "Haven't we been here before with the Clarence Thomas hearings?"
You might even think we could have learned something from that experience, but apparently the notion of a fair hearing only applies to powerful Republican men, the poor fragile entitled dears.
