It's funny how nobody ever mentions the TV shows that Lucy did after "I Love Lucy". She was pretty much a fixture on CBS for years in the 60s and early 70s.
Also, Desilu Productions, which she founded with Desi Arnaz and headed from 1960 on, were also the producers of "Star Trek" ( the original series )
One additional possibility was that Lucy kept demanding more and more money. This was before studios dumped the year to year contracts and obligated stars to stick around for multiple years.
Actually, I was wrong. Ball walked away from The Lucy Show as she had enough episodes in the bank for syndication. (Around the same time, Desilu was sold to Gulf + Western, so she no longer held any rights to that series or I Love Lucy.) She then started a new show, Here's Lucy, which spent two or three seasons in the Top Ten Nielsen ratings, and then dropped into the mid-teens. She knocked that one on the head when there were enough episodes for syndication which belonged to her personal distribution company. The irony was that she had a hard time selling the show because the syndication market was already awash in Lucy product, none of which belonged to her.
I'm still among the 4 people in the world that feel this way but I LOATHED the entire Luci franchise. Not so much that I didn't like Lucille Ball but the comedy made me retch.
Lucy tries some harebrained scheme for some reason, everything comes crashing down around her, and then Ricky has to clean up her mess..... Pretty much sums it up.
I recall one Stooges short (don't remember the title offhand) where the trio was asked to cater a formal dinner party that a rich guy was throwing for his wife. Needless to say, after much physical comedy between the Stooges, the high society dinner devolved into a pie fight. As the whipped cream and custard were flying about, Moe and the host found themselves sheltering under the same table. The host took the opportunity to THANK him for the great party; he'd never seen his wife having so much fun before!
Editrix, it was so sad that that proposition 7 passed. It’s basically a taxpayer funded so subsidy for gas plants. Once again, the 2 billionaires that own Greg Abbott got what they wanted put on the ballot and a majority of my fellow Texans bought into the bullshit. The other propositions that passed that personally pissed me off were prop 1, the “freedom to farm” amendment. It should have been called the “freedom to irresponsibly use pesticides and herbicides and prevent cities and counties from suing you”. Always a bad sign when the big agribusinesses are pushing something and smaller farmers and ranchers are against it. Also too, proposition 3. Lower property tax. Sounds good, right? It does it by gutting school funding (largely paid for from our property taxes). For a one-off reduction in property tax. The website for the tv station KXAN (here in Austin has a really nice interactive map showing how each county voted for each of the 14 propositions. Oh well. And of course, as always, fuck Ted Cruz.
If the states are a petri dish of democracy, well. I remember when CA tried the property tax thing. Prop 13 is one of the overearch items that destroyed the rethug party there. Keep persevering. You may see some light... eventually.
That is a bit of trivia I have savored for decades. That she played a major role in making my favorite TV program happen delights me beyond all measure.
Arnez was the perfect straight foil for Lucille Ball. They were such a powerful combination on camera I suppose that it was inevitable that their marriage would fail.
It's got everything in it! Meat! Vegetables! Grain! 23% alcohol!
And my wretched, wretched tears. I spent 7 months writing up a detailed, 922-footnote feminist treatise all in the hope that it would get some love from you. But no! I am anguished. I shall set over here with my vitametavegamin and despair.
Re the Thom Hartmann post - how did I not know that two of PAB's Deutsche Bank collaborators committed suicide? Was that common knowledge, or did I just miss it in the tsunami of other hinky shit surrounding Orange Foolius?
Oh, I think the harpoons in the sides so the rich could light their houses with whale oil might have been a tip-off. To the Orcas, the white whale in Moby Dick is the hero.
People are asking about P01135809's fraud trial, asking why take testimony from his offsproing if the judge has already reached a finding of fact that fraud occurred? Well! A legal friend of mine explained to me that taking the testimony of Don Jr, Eric and Ivanka lays a foundation for introducing *more* evidence of fraud. That will probably impeach the testimonies of these offsproings. Karma is so fucking brutal sometimes.
I think there were something like six counts in the original filing. One was decided as a summary judgment, the others are part of this trial, as is the value of the fine in the one fraud decision.
“Yesterday, one of my favorite science writers published an important piece: “Legislatures and politicians are pressuring public health officials to keep quiet about Covid vaccines.” Texas and Florida were called out, and Tennessee was briefly mentioned.
I can attest to this. One of these states recently invited me to speak at an event. Before going on stage, I was told what I could and could not say.”

Your hed gif source is “I Love Lucy.” As this is one of the most recognized scenes in tv comedy history, you likely already knew that. https://open.substack.com/pub/martiniambassador/p/job-switching

Because they were ratings duds. Only "I Love Lucy" had the staying power.
"The Lucy Show" ran from 1962-1968 and was only canned because of CBS's purge of sitcoms that skewed older.
One additional possibility was that Lucy kept demanding more and more money. This was before studios dumped the year to year contracts and obligated stars to stick around for multiple years.

And tasty too!
Physical comedy is such great stuff when done well, and a bit harder to perform than it might seem. Thanks for the morning smiles, Mme Martini.

I was so embarrassed for her that I just couldn't.
You feel the same way about the Stooges presumably?

Apparently the /only/ scene the Lucy Show let anyone use so it's become a cliché.
Lucille Ball is the amazingly talented woman who made me LOVE the red in my hair.
Gawd but I adored that lady.
Lucille made Star Trek happen.
I only learned that late in life. Fascinating.
Mission Impossible also too. Noticeable drop off in quality after Paramount took over a larger role in production
You should read the book "The Complete Mission: Impossible Dossier". Fascinating story behind the series.
I will look for it.

Also made Carol Burnett happen. Or at least gave her a big boost early in Carol's TV career.
THIS!
She was amazing!
That is a bit of trivia I have savored for decades. That she played a major role in making my favorite TV program happen delights me beyond all measure.
That movies is great.
Arnez was the perfect straight foil for Lucille Ball. They were such a powerful combination on camera I suppose that it was inevitable that their marriage would fail.
I got to meet Desi once.
That is all
TOO absolutely cool!
Smart, confident and one of the funniest humans in history.
Thank goodness she existed (and gave us Star Trek also, too).
>> you likely already knew that <<
Well, there are known knowns and there are unknown knowns, and there are known unknowns and unknown unknowns, which Lucy can 'splain for you.
You’ve been hitting the Vitavetavegamin early, haven’t you? 😜

I did not know about it! I saw you writing that you were intending to write something, but that was it. I will go searching.
How wude! Everyone should head over to your 'stack and SMASH THAT LIKE!
....sorry, I was temporarily possessed by the spirit of a over-exuberant YouTuber.
I don't see any ads in your non-comment.

If you did a Clinton body count style accounting of Trump's last 50 years on the planet, you would be absolutely agog at the numbers
I didn't either!
OK, I feel a little better about not knowing. Because HOLY FUCK, how damning is that??

Why not both?

Not nearly brutal enough, IMHO.

Red states intentionally spreading COVID tab …
States are withholding vaccine information

1. Increase Covid cases
2. Try to make Biden look bad
3. Profit!
Especially if you're DeathSantis and getting kickbacks for a COVID treatment and have a financial incentive for more people to get sick.
