How would she support herself and her kids?

Ummmmm -- alimony and child support.

Actually, whatever happens "It must've been God's will". You know, for testing your faith, for making you stronger, for teaching you life lessons.

For ________________ (insert whatever bullshit works for you sweetie).

I think any religion's claim to exclusively holding the "right answer" or as a basis for "true morality" is conceit of the highest order. The proper humanist perspective is to say that everyone sees the world subjectively, and if each individual's answer works for them and helps them to accept that we're all just organisms on this rock in space together, living finite lives, then there's nothing inherently wrong with that. Forcing our own subjective truths off onto others or doggedly ignoring simple empirical facts, on the other hand, that's when one's faith becomes detrimental.

Late reply, but I liked what you've shared.Scopes was such a major victory in disguise, because it opened up the potential of discussing a naturalistic origin of life in public education. Sometimes you gotta lose the small battles in order to win the big ones. We still have a long way to go, unfortunately. I see today's climate change denialists as just another extension of the exact same attitude: that we humans are somehow "above" or "set apart" from the other species and therefore we're entitled to treat the world as we see fit; rather than recognize that we're just as connected to a newt on a trail, or a coyote on a hill as we are to our neighbors or our parents. Ecological health is human health.

She's upset that it was "such a public thing"? In the public? Whose fault is that?

I knew I had to cling to my f̶a̶i̶t̶h̶ meal ticket.

Anna's eyes are so dead and she has this moment where she becomes less religious robot and more human. It's like there is this whole person inside struggling to get away from the super crazy religious bot. Then again, I could be just projecting what I hope is going on inside of that side banged head of hers.

Maybe I am an asshole because in this situation, she's stupid if she hangs around a few more times. He assaulted his little sisters. The second she heard him admit that , she should have scooped her children up and got the fuck out.

Right? "we sent him away to a family friend. " Yeah, sounds real legit.

I don't know statistics or the profile of such abusers (well, I am vaguely recalling reading that what you said is true) I just know, as a parent, I'm out. I have peace of mind for my kids, I have peace of mind for the friends of my kids etc. . . sigh. ugh. fucking asshole.

She's brainwashed. She's probably even blaming herself. Their narrow brand of religion is pure evil. Not talking about Christianity, just their weird fundie interpretation of it.

Let us stop to remember Quiverful member Andrea Pia Kennedy Yates who confessed to drowning her five children in their bathtub on June 20, 2001 .( Instead of paying attention to the empty headed crap presented by the Duggars )
