I think any religion's claim to exclusively holding the "right answer" or as a basis for "true morality" is conceit of the highest order. The proper humanist perspective is to say that everyone sees the world subjectively, and if each individual's answer works for them and helps them to accept that we're all just organisms on this rock in space together, living finite lives, then there's nothing inherently wrong with that. Forcing our own subjective truths off onto others or doggedly ignoring simple empirical facts, on the other hand, that's when one's faith becomes detrimental.

Sometimes you gotta lose the small battles in order to win the big ones. We still have a long way to go, unfortunately. I see today's climate change denialists as just another extension of the exact same attitude: that we humans are somehow "above" or "set apart" from the other species and therefore we're entitled to treat the world as we see fit; rather than recognize that we're just as connected to a newt on a trail, or a coyote on a hill as we are to our neighbors or our parents. Ecological health is human health.
