And I trust he'll pick an excellent Vice President.

Ageism sucks. We can't discriminate against race, color, creed, religion, sexual preference. We need to include age in there.

Myself, both brothers, both sisters-in-law, and both SIL's families, are all firmly on the liberal side of the spectrum.

My mom is, sadly, very insular, and AFAIK has rarely expressed any political opinions.

And then there's my dad... He's an ultra-religious Hindu who blames Muslims for Gandhi being assassinated (by an ultra-religious Hindu, but "details" 🙄). He started full-fledged shouting at me at someone else's house over the fact that I'm against repealing the estate tax. While I wasn't there and so don't know exactly what was said, he managed to piss off my Nth-generation-descendent-of-Mexican-immigrants sis-in-law so much over immigration, that she hasn't spoken to him in over two years.

So, yeah. "Family" <sigh>

He'd be 78 at inauguration, the same age as my mum now, and only 3 years younger than my Dad. And every time I see them I realise how frail they are. Could the US risk dementia? Unfortunately it is a thing, and can strike with no warning. He may be already on the path, just there is no indication yet.

I'm fond of Steve Bullock, Mitch Landrieu, Cheri Bustos, John Hickenlooper, and Tim Ryan (who had a bizarre-ass slander piece right here on Wonkette, for some reason).

Florida. But I mean alone in the families. His side are gun nuts and listen to FOX and Limbaugh all the time. My side is that annoying middle class white southerner thing that pretends to be enlightened but never admits to privilege and votes conservative.

I don't disagree with any of that.

Yes, they can both be true. But we could also add in people who switched to voting for Trump after voting for OBama for two terms. Only people who read mommy blogs like this even know of the term "purity ponies." I somewhat doubt the fact that 45 million or so Dems stayed home because they got "purity ponied" by Jill or Bernie. Plus, I remember PUMAS. So former PUMAS need to sit down and STFU, because they were ponies, too, and quite possibly racist ones.

I'm a purity pony on two issues. Re-instate Glass-Steagall immediately, and come up with a public option for health care. This is a pipe dream, as the current crop of Dem. hopefuls won't do a damn thing about either, because they get lots of money from the insurance industry, and a lot of them have Wall Street buddies. Even if the Dem. candidate does not support "my" two issues, I would still vote for them. You can't always get what you want. I think the Democrats would do very well with a FDR(minus the racism) type of candidate right now, but to the current Democratic party, he'd be considered a fringe liberal.
