Interesting.

For a long time I didn't believe that climate change was a serious threat. The thing that convinced me that climate change was real was the goddamn Wikipedia page on climate change. I never saw all the facts laid out like that in the sober, deadpan Wikipedia style. I know it sounds stupid, but it's what convinced me.

Maybe even that trash island out in the Pacific. Fewer development costs than the middle of the Atlantic. And Trash Island would still work as a name.

No regulations also means the provenance of the food is suspect, so enjoy it while it lasts - you'll likely be on the can for a while.

That would also incentivize raising wages for those at the bottom of the pay scale. Clever. I like it.

Oh, Robyn you marxist Keynesian you!

If the minimum wage had kept up with the increase in productivity since 2009, it would be $14.74 now.

many of these legislators, policy wonks, and corporate figureheads have attended Ivy League business programs, where micro & macro econ courses drill this into their heads from the jump. They should know this is how things work in the long run, but would rather comport themselves as sociopaths, only thinking about the next QE results.

There's no reason a little company in, say, Willmar MN can't sell globally; except you can't find them and they can't get their catalogue online in a useable way or do business globally because they have such terrible internet.

Most of the small town folk do not seem to realize how much their economy could improve if they exploited the net. I have purchased swords, for instance, made in small villages in Thailand, the Philippines, and the American northern plains (far from a big city). These businesses could not have survived on local business alone. And 40 years ago I could not find quality traditional weapons for love or money.

*looks around surreptitiously*Of course, their young people will be plugged into the global culture, and become noticeably more liberal than their parents. Don't tell anyone.

Ron Johnson? The Ron Johnson who makes $174,000 a year? The Ron Johnson with a net worth of $39,000,000, made through his brother-in-law's oil-dependent manufacturing business, he's the 8th richest senator? That Ron Johnson said higher salaries for hourly workers would ruin the economy?

I'm shocked.
