Beau of the Fifth Column points to the possibility that Johnson just flat squeezed Trump, who's vitality has been on the wane. Not exactly good news. Tab: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv1UI1j9-nM&t=40s

> Mitch McConnell, a staunch backer of Ukraine aid, says the anti-Ukraine movement began with Tucker Carlson

Bullshit, Mitch! Carlson only cared because TFG cared. TFG only cared because Putin cared.

The House vote was more illuminating as it voted on all the aid packages separately. Since the Senate had to vote on the whole package Rs there can have voted against it for all sorts of reasons that make sense to them (as the three Progressive Senators did). The House however showed an unsurprising alignment between members who voted against aid for Ukraine (and ONLY against that aid) and members who voted against certifying the 2020 election.

The best adjective for "senate" these days is sclerotic. It's amazing to me they can even defecate in the morning before hobbling into the chamber.

"Punchbowl thinks it might be because Donald Trump was comparatively less bitchy-moany about it this time"

I assume the proven rapist Defendant Trump has a plan to recoup all the money sent to Ukraine for himself if he becomes president again and then sends in the Marines to help Putin take over the country.

Don't forget the role of House Speaker de facto Jeffries in keeping his people with their eyes on the ball. And he seems to be giving Mike Johnson (R-Gulf of Mexico) lessons in how to keep his Crazy Caucus from making trouble.

Just to be fair here, Sanders (and presumably the others) tried to get an amendment on military aid to Israel since the Senate, unlike the House, could not vote on the aid piecemeal.

Which would mean sending the whole thing back to the House again and holding it up for more time when it was already five months overdue

I can't remember where I read it -- but has anyone looked into the possibility that in another Trump Administration, the next Secretary of Defense would be Stolen-Valor-parading Fascist NYT-Op-Ed-scribbling Tom Cotton?
