I spent something like an hour at home yesterday trying to understand why some code I had just written kept throwing a NameError. A certain number of profanities were issued during that time.

I can see Intel getting the fab up and running with ex-pat West Coast employees despairing over living costs and young locals eager for opportunity. But one big reason semiconductor plants gather in certain areas is that they require a food chain of skilled suppliers and sub-contractors. This takes time to build. You don’t go from welding truck frames to clean room gas piping overnight.The central states have spent 40 years down-sizing their industrial skills and it will be hard to undo that damage quickly.

Ugh. When I was a kid it took 30 sec for the TV to warm up after turning it on. I was awestruck when we got a TV that lit up instantly.

Yes, but semi-conductor manufacturing uses A LOT of water. Going to have to take that into account as the southwest gets drier and drier.
