This was the logical end result of the hate campaign against LGBTQ+. Literally any and all hate campaigns against any group will eventually result in at least one, likely more, murders of those in the hated group by those who subscribe to the hate campaign. This is not rocket science at all, as long as the hate campaign's influences persists and the further it spreads, the greater the probability of someone subscribing to this message of hate actually acting upon it and committing murder according to its precepts.
Until that probability eventually and inevitably hits 1. Which it did in this case.
The ones who promote and promulgate this campaign of hatred are completely aware of this eventuality or rather inevitability. It's not even a case of FAFO, it's a certainty that if you spread hate at a particular group long enough and you reach enough demographics with it, someone who subscribes to this hate would eventually act out against that group in a homicidal act.
They know this from the very beginning and they persist because that's the whole point of the hate. To do away with the hated demographic. Eradication is the one sole logical objective of such messages, there are no others.
They hate having to give an inch of room for someone else to just be. To exist--they claim it is tyranny to even think about sharing. I will never understand the absolute nastiness and selfishness of people who think they are being oppressed by showing care to someone different than them.
