Yes there were. And even worse -- the dread Soviets provided diplomatic support and guns to the ANC.
This was known as proletarian internationalism and was considered a good thing by many in the solidarity movements. I was active around Central America in the 80's myself.
Very, very good point, and I think that's where Christianity took a very wrong turn.
However: the earliest known depictions of Jesus are of Christ the Healer. The Crucified Christ imagery appears to have come along a bit later on, when the Imitation of Christ became a dominant theological position.
This is the usual strategery....they've sanitized MLK into near irrelevance. Even a cursory glance at what he really thought, said, and stood for would make them piss themselves in terror.
BIL was a white nationalist skinhead. His brother (Mr. Sedagive) was a long-haired, cross-dressing goth boy. They're so alike, and they've always been very, very close.
We're both right! How often does that happen? Yeah, I always cringe when these fucking "principled" Republican Never-Trumpers invoke the ghost of Reagan as some sort of sanctified icon. THAT motherfucker? Seriously??
I lived in NYCity in the '80's and on the eve of one of Bishop Tutu's visits to the city, I got a frantic phone call from Dave Cline, a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War and a shop steward for the NY/NJ Port Authority. Apparently Bishop Tutu was going to take a helicopter from the airport to Manhattan and Dave was going to be in charge of the helipad. Knowing that I had been raised as a Catholic, Dave thought I might know the proper way to address a bishop.
"Is it 'Your Eminence' or 'Your Excellency' or something else?" I had no idea, as the only bishop I'd ever met gave me a ritual slap at my Confirmation ceremony with no exchange of words. I also pointed out that Bishop Tutu was Anglican, not Catholic. After some discussion, Dave figured he'd say something like, "Bishop Tutu, it's my great honor to welcome you to New York City and say we at the Port Authority are in solidarity with your struggle against apartheid". A day later, I phoned Dave.
"How did it go?""When he got off the helicopter, I forgot everything and just blurted out 'Wow! You're really short!' He laughed and said 'Yes, I am!' and went on his way."
Agreed. He's also good at explaining stuff in a way that my fragile arse doesn't need to struggle against self-harm ideation for a week in guilt/shame. (not, of course, that anyone is obligated to give a fuck about me and my stupid feelings.) Maybe that's part of why former skinhead is getting a tiny bit wiser himself?

Guessing you make shrill unfounded accusations frequently.
So why not hide them, since you can't deal with it?
No Kevin Bacon required!

They couldn't find a quote that supported their 'color blind' nonsense, so they demonize instead.
I was thinking about Apartheid, but yes, absolutely all that evil shit here too. Roast In the Pits (of Hell), fuckers.
Computer Man, too!

IKR?

What a great man he was.How desperately we need more of him.
Let me just say I'm glad you married the other one.
Dr. King was exactly who I was thinking of.(And I mentioned him in my comment.) "Oh, Martin Luther King would never go for that CRT stuff!"
Tutu is an anti-Trump. If the two of them had ever come together they would disappear in a burst of gamma rays.

And that's my Bishop Tutu story.
